When he’s not busy writing reports to assist David Cameron in his attempts to balls up the UK film industry by only supporting “mainstream films,” Julian Fellowes is quietly going about penning one of the most successful dramas on television right now. “Downton Abbey” is now in its third season and its popularity shows no signs of waning (last night’s episode pulling in nearly 10m live viewers in the U.K.) – so appropriately BAFTA selected the Oscar-winning writer Fellowes (“Gosford Park”) to kick off their 2012 series of annual screenwriters lectures.

While the opening two episodes of season three of “Boardwalk Empire” have been characteristically languid, the drama of this season seems to be finally coalescing; albeit still at a rather leisurely pace. But the character-driven show has always been more interested in the arcs and personal dilemmas of its various players over plot and yet, the show’s disparate arcs are starting to tether a little tighter, setting the stage for some larger showdowns down the road. The gait isn’t quick, but the wheels are in motion.

To say that the infamous “Red Dawn” remake has been long delayed is an understatement -- Chris Hemsworth has been in three successful blockbusters since the remake was first completed -- but FilmDistrict is finally releasing the small-town USA invasion film next month in time for the second-most American holiday, Thanksgiving. In an effort to make sure all that time and effort (the villains were changed from an invading Chinese force to a North Korean one long after principal photography had wrapped) were worth it, the company is waging a campaign of its own to lure audiences to the theater and has released a brand new clip from the film.

While he’s already hard at work shooting on the Forest Whitaker-led ensemble drama “The Butler” (which just got picked up by The Weinstein Company), Lee Daniels’ latest film “The Paperboy,” which had a less-than enthusiastic response at Cannes earlier this year, is headed to theaters and Millenium Entertainment have released a new clip from the film.

You would think that given the release calendar for 2014 is still pretty wide open, studios wouldn't be crowding their major tentpoles close together, but already, March of that year is looking like it's going to be a wrestling match of competing films. And showdowns don't get much bigger than Tom Cruise vs. Angelina Jolie.
