I, Frankenstein
Over the years, Frankenstein's monster, originally brought to vivid life in the pages of Mary Shelley's classic horror novel "Frankenstein," has been many things—a hulking brute, a tortured poet, a comic foil, a Marvel superhero. But in Stuart Beattie's colorless new sci-fi mishmash, "I, Frankenstein," the creature created by the mad scientist Victor Frankenstein is blandly recast as a biblical savior, tasked to even the playing field in an eternal struggle between (would you believe) hellish demons and stoic gargoyles (yes, gargoyles), with Earth hanging precariously in the balance. Or something. For all of "I, Frankenstein"'s wooshy visual effects and sexy brooding (not to mention its overtly convoluted plot), it's hard to find much of a pulse.

If this is a joke, it's the best one we've heard all day. If it's real ... God help us all. And sadly, this one is legit, so get ready folks, there is more nefarious anti-government plotting afoot, and there's only one man who can stop him ...

I, Frankenstein
Next year finds a few classic movie monsters getting a fresh coat of paint. Warner Bros. will stomp around with their new take on "Godzilla," Universal is unveiling "Dracula Untold," and kicking it all off is Lionsgate with "I, Frankenstein." And we'll say this, it's definitely not the same dude with the bolts in his neck, wearing a tattered jacket.

With Blumhouse having a great weekend with "Insidious: Chapter 2" destroying the box office, leading to near instant development on a third movie, the horror house is barely stopping to take a breath. They've announced yet another scare flick with a one word title beginning the letter "I"—"Incarnate."

Review: 'Olympus Has Fallen' A Thin, High-Concept Actioner Without Much Bite

The new big budget, bullet-riddled actioner "Olympus Has Fallen" has a premise so painfully obvious that it's amazing nobody thought of it before, especially in the creatively bankrupt atmosphere of Hollywood. The plot is essentially "Die Hard" in the White House, with a similarly smart-ass loner (Gerard Butler) trapped in a massive building full of heavily armed terrorists, holding one very important man hostage (Aaron Eckhart, trading up from his district attorney position in "The Dark Knight" to President of the United States here). Unfortunately, "Olympus Has Fallen" fails to capture even a glimmer of the greatness of "Die Hard," instead coming across as a loud, crass, unpleasantly violent movie whose politics are muddier than its gauzy cinematography. (It should be noted, however, that it is markedly superior to the last actual "Die Hard" movie, the borderline unwatchable "A Good Day to Die Hard." Still.)

After a new trailer just a couple of weeks back, some fresh photos have just been released for the forthcoming Aaron Eckhart-led thriller "Erased." The film also features Liana Liberato and Olga Kurylenko who's back in more familiar territory after her excursion with Terrence Malick in "To The Wonder." The film finds Eckhart playing ex-CIA agent Ben Logan who discovers that he and his daughter (Liberato) have been marked for termination as part of a wide-reaching international conspiracy. A dangerous game of cat-and-mouse ensues as Logan tries to outsmart his hunters (amongst whom is Kurylenko) and uncover the truth.

While Jeremy Irvine, Lucas Till and Alex Pettyfer were testing for the coveted (?) male lead in "Divergent," and certainly have more name recognition than the eventual winner, it seems their talents didn't quite match what the filmmakers were looking for. Instead, rising Brit actor Theo James has gotten the gig, in what he likely hopes will be a push into the stateside scene.
