Expectations are a tricky thing with films. In an age where every teaser, trailer, teaser-for-a-trailer, poster and publicity still are pored over endlessly, many go into a film thinking they know what they'll think afterwards. This can lead to hopes being crushed, or sometimes, for a film that you'd previously dismissed turning out to be a pleasant surprise -- only last summer, we were dreading "Rise of the Planet of the Apes," only to discover that it was perhaps the best blockbuster of the season. Honestly, very little makes us happier than such a film: a picture that's been mis-marketed that turns out be an absolute treat, that is an entirely different beast to what you thought it was going to be.

Rising Brit actress Andrea Riseborough spent most 2011 out of the multiplex and in the arthouse, with a number of pics unspooling at festivals including Madonna's "W.E.," James Marsh's espionage tale "Shadow Dancer," and the alternate history WWII tale "Resistance." Big things are on the horizon with roles in a handful of promising efforts including the James McAvoy led action flick "Welcome To The Punch" and Tom Cruise's sci-fi number "Oblivion," and now she's knocking "horror movie" off her to-do list.

While we still have to wait a bit for Peter Berg's watery explosion fest known as "Battleship," the board game movie actually starts opening up internationally next week and thanks to Japan and Russia, a few more peeks at the movie have made their way online.

Alexander Skarsgård, the young offspring of the well-respected acting talent Stellan Skarsgård, hasn’t quite carved his niche out for himself just yet in the film world. Outside of women everywhere with HBO subscriptions who DVR every episode of horror soap “True Blood” to watch his ripped physique, his excellent spots in Lars Von Trier’s “Melancholia,” the HBO mini-series “Generation Kill,” and even his performance in the unnecessary Rod Lurie remake of Sam Peckinpah’s “Straw Dogs” have seemed to go unnoticed despite being praiseworthy. That should all change as he’s been lining up an impressive slate of films, including his first big blockbuster in the sci-fi board game remake “Battleship,” an epic Viking picture he’s producing and starring in, and a plum role opposite current indie darling Brit Marling in “Sound of My Voice” helmer Zal Batmanglij’s “The East.” Now he has another potentially mainstream-ready project to add to his busy slate.

Oh yeah, "Battleship." We kind of forgot about this $200 million dollar board game adaptation (good lord), but it's just around the corner and the marketing campaign is going to start heading up soon for the film. A handful of outlets, including Movieline and The Hitlist were invited to the editing bay to chat with director Peter Berg about this upcoming film, and a few new images have come along for a ride as well. And yes, in case you forgot, this is the movie where Rihanna plays a Naval officer, but Berg reveals she brought the uh, "urban swagger" he was looking for in the movie.
