Damn it. Just when we thought we were going to be able to ignore Zach Braff's controversially crowd-sourced sophomore feature, he goes and casts Anna Kendrick. According to The Wrap, the "Pitch Perfect" star, so often the best thing in whatever she's in, has joined the cast of Braff's currently-prepping "Wish I Was Here." The actress will play the love interest of Braff's character's brother (Josh Gad), a young cosplayer named Janine. Manic Pixie Dream Girl alert! Mandy Patinkin is also in the cast (Mandy Patinkin Dream Girl alert!), and Kendrick will next be seen in the questionable-looking "Rapturepalooza," which opens on June 7th.

Change is good and Marjane Satrapi seems to thrive on it. She broke out in 2007 with the beloved, critically acclaimed, Oscar nominated "Persepolis," but has hardly made a predictable step since. Her followup was the fantastical live action tale "Chicken With Plums" and not long after came the comic mini-feature (it ran about 75 minutes long), "The Gang Of The Jotas." Now, she's shifting gears again with "The Voices," and after nabbing Ryan Reynolds to star last fall, she's picked up two more names in what may be her most mainstream effort yet.

In case you weren’t aware, “Pitch Perfect” did pretty well, especially with the younger crowd (enough that a sequel is now in the works). The soundtrack was also a massive seller, and one of the highlights for many was “Cups” as sung by Anna Kendrick, and now (somewhat belatedly?) it has its own music video.

The Company You Keep, Shia LaBeouf, Brit Marling
Five years after Robert Redford’s disappointing anti-war drama "Lions for Lambs" the 76-year-old actor, director and Sundance mogul is back in similar territory. He directs and stars in the forthcoming "The Company You Keep" which tells the story of Jim Grant, a public interest lawyer and single father living in Albany, New York. Shia LaBoeuf’s brash reporter exposes Grant as a fugitive, wanted for a murder he allegedly committed in his days as an anti-war radical. Grant is forced to go on the run and find the person who might be able to clear his name.

With the rise of digital filmmaking in the last decade, a new wave of DIY "mumblecore" filmmakers have risen up through the ranks. While initially many of these films were loose and unpolished, they are now are becoming more refined with many of these directors and actors now having basically integrated themselves into the mainstream (or mainstream indie anyway). Of the directors who have come of age during this digital era, perhaps none is more notorious or divisive than Joe Swanberg, the writer/director/editor/actor responsible for 12 films over the last 8 years. With an output that prolific, you would think by now you should know whether Swanberg's brand of filmmaking is your cup of tea or not.

Well, it's ambitions were certainly up there. First announced two years ago, we kind of totally forgot about "Rapturepalooza," but Anna Kendrick and John Francis Daley had signed on for a comedy that was aiming to be something like "Zombieland" meets "The Big Lebowski." But judging by this new trailer for the movie, the filmmakers missed the mark...and then some...

In October, rising star and talented actress-singer Anna Kendrick signed on to play the female lead in a film adaptation of the successful time-warp romantic musical “The Last 5 Years.” Now, Broadway golden boy Jeremy Jordan has been cast as her love interest, a choice that is sure to get the theater kids jazzed up. Jordan was Tony Award-nominated for his lead performance as Jack Kelly in “Newsies” last year, has also starred in the film musical “Joyful Noise” with Dolly Parton and Queen Latifah, and can currently can be seen in season 2 of "Smash."

Since 2005, director Joe Swanberg has shot over a dozen feature-length DIY films. He helped kick off the term "mumblecore" in 2005 with his debut, "Kissing on the Mouth," and he's known for micro-budgeted indies like "Hannah Takes The Stairs" (which helped launch Greta Gerwig's career), "Nights & Weekends" and "Alexander The Last." But after making about fourteen features (plus shorts) in about seven years, Swanberg's finally trying his hand at something different: a sort-of Hollywood film called "Drinking Buddies," starring the biggest names that have ever been in any of his films: Anna Kendrick, Olivia Wilde, Jake Johnson ("New Girl"), Ron Livingston and director Ti West.

And so they face the final curtain. This week "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Pt. 2," the fifth film in the franchise based on Stephenie Meyer's best-selling young-adult vampire novels, will hit theaters (read our review here). And while Lionsgate and Summit are hoping to extend the life of their cash cow, for the moment this movie marks the end of the franchise and the story of star-crossed lovers Edward Cullen and Bella Swann.

While remaining the constant between two recent projects propelled by excellent word-of-mouth, "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" and “Pitch Perfect” actress Anna Kendrick nonetheless proved her 2010 Oscar nomination a worthy pick. While that honor was for her supporting work opposite George Clooney in “Up In The Air,” she's slowly taken more of a central role starting with 'Pitch,' and now she's found another starring project that keeps her singing talents in focus yet again.
