While the sequel to "Red," the 2010 action comedy that starred Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, John Malkovich and Morgan Freeman as over-the-hill assassins, doesn't open until the middle of July, Lionsgate and producers Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and Mark Vahradian are already plotting a third film, with screenwriting siblings Jon and Erich Hoeber back for a third go-around (according to the Hollywood Reporter). "Thank god!" said nobody.

As the solid ratings for the dumber-than-a-bag-of-especially-stupid-rocks Kevin Bacon-starring procedural "The Following" have proven, serial killers are enduring draws in popular culture. But while you can barely change the channel on TV without glimpsing some one-time big-screen star wading through a bloody crime scene, they're not what they once were at the movies. There have been great serial killer movies of late ("Zodiac," "The Snowtown Murders"), but their bleak take on the subject matter saw them draw small audiences, while more mainstream fare like "Alex Cross" and "The Raven" were, well, dreadful.

Okay, we get why there's a sequel to "Red" -- it made just under $200 million worldwide. But seriously, do you remember anything about that movie? Have you been itching for a sequel? In what might be the most unnecessary sequel of 2013 (and yes, that includes "300: Rise Of An Empire"), "Red 2" is coming.

In Sacha Gervasi's "Hitchcock,” Anthony Hopkins plays the legendary director, and Helen Mirren his wife and often unacknowledged collaborative partner. On the surface, the film is about the making of "Psycho" -- and great fun is there to be had with recreating some of the key moments of that movie, including a shower scene with Scarlett Johansson as Janet Leigh -- but even more so, the film is a love story (about both the married couple who made the film possible by mortgaging their home and their mutual love of film).

Hypnotic, beautiful, and perilous in equal measure – one needn’t glance anywhere else but at the leading ladies of Alfred Hitchcock’s films to garner their intense influence. Yet as dramatized in “Anvil!” director Sacha Gervasi’s loving biopic, “Hitchcock,” the real authority lingered off the set at home, shielding her husband quietly from failure and ruin. What follows is a peek behind the curtain on Hitchcock’s marriage to Alma Reville (the couple played by Anthony Hopkins and Helen Mirren), while charting their pangs of jealousy and pressure during the turbulent making of “Psycho.” Based on Stephen Rebello’s book, “Alfred Hitchcock and the Making of Psycho,” the source material proves there’s indeed a compelling story to be told here, but while Gervasi’s comedy-drama presses charmingly on this period in Hitchcock’s career, the film ultimately collapses under its own lightweight intentions of tribute-turned-romance.

Did Anthony Hopkins just pull a Joaquin Phoenix? The legendary actor and four-time Oscar nominee (who won Best Actor for "Silence Of The Lambs") is out on the stump for "Hitchcock," but he's making it plainly clear he's not a fan of having to charm all the various critics groups and voters as part of the awards season rush.
