“Kill the Messenger” is shaping up to possess one of the better ensemble casts for 2014. The true story of reporter Gary Webb (Jeremy Renner) is fraught with sadness and suicide stemming from Webb’s attempts to connect the CIA to the crack cocaine trade only to become the victim of a smear campaign. The film is being helmed by Michael Cuesta of "Homeland" fame, and already boasts a cast the includes “The Wire" badass Michael K. Williams and the recently announced Mary Elizabeth Winstead.

Following yesterday's news that Rachel Weisz had been dropped from Terrence Malick's upcoming "To the Wonder," in sorta obvious news, it has now been confirmed that Barry Pepper, Michael Sheen and Amanda Peet have also had their parts sliced out of the film.

It was just a couple of weeks ago that we wondered if we were going to be seeing Terrence Malick's then-untitled romance starring (deep breath) Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Rachel McAdams, Rachel Weisz, Javier Bardem, Barry Pepper, Michael Sheen and Amanda Peet before the end of the year. And at the time, the answer was: who knew? The enigmatic director keeps to himself and likes to continually tinker, but with two more movies gearing up this year in the formerly titled "Lawless" and "Knight Of Cups," we hoped that meant this one was finally nearing the finish line. And it appears that's the case.

For a minute back in May of 2000, it looked like Barry Pepper’s career was on life support after starring as Jonnie Goodboy Tyler in the stillborn L. Ron Hubbard sci-fi mega-flop “Battlefield Earth: A Saga of the Year 3000.” In the years since, John Travolta’s career has recovered (we’ve all seen and loved him in the rhyming double-feature of “Wild Hogs” and “Old Dogs”). Pepper has meanwhile established himself as one of the more reliable supporting players in movies, giving solid performances in films like “25th Hour,” “The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada,” and last year’s “True Grit,” to name a few.

Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale & Helena Bonham Carter Also Getting Ready To Saddle UpIf there is one thing that country musician and actor Dwight Yoakam does well, its act like an asshole and sleazebag. Billy Bob Thornton knew this when he cast him as the memorably repulsive Doyle Hargraves in "Sling Blade" and David Fincher realized his presence alone was worth more than pages of dialogue when he tasked Yoakam to play the unpredictable and violent Raoul. He can also be wryly funny as he's displayed in "Crank" and "Wedding Crashers" but he's gearing up for this biggest movie yet.

Plus Barry Pepper Talks The Untitled Malick DramaThe renaissance of Ben Affleck continues apace. After some impressive supporting roles in the likes of "Hollywoodland" and "Extract" and a burgeoning directorial career, the actor -- whose career was not so long ago in severe trouble -- booked a role in Terrence Malick's untitled new drama. It's a part any actor dreams of having, and as it turns out, Affleck and Malick aren't complete strangers.

With Terrence Malick hard at work on his next film starring Rachel McAdams, Ben Affleck, Rachel Weisz, Olga Kurylenko, Javier Bardem and Barry Pepper, details have, as usual with Malick, been completely under wraps. Aside from the casting, and set pictures revealing that Bardem and Pepper play priests in the film, little is known about the picture but has a French website spilled the beans on the title?

Ok, "Tree Of Life" is in the can and set for a May 27, 2011 release date (it'll likely premiere at the Cannes Film Festival a few days before the picture goes into regular theatrical release) so onto Terrence Malick's next film, an untitled feature that, shockingly, is already shooting in Oklahoma and not waiting five years to gestate.
