After years in development, it looks like a contemporary take on the classic 1947 film "The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty" starring Danny Kaye is finally going to move forward. Over the years directors like Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg and Gore Verbinski came and went with folks like Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Sacha Baron Cohen, Will Ferrell and Owen Wilson looking at the lead role. The project took a new direction over the spring when Ben Stiller came aboard in the starring role and it looks like he has such a clear vision for the project, he's just gonna make the damn thing himself.

While "Mr. Popper's Penguins" will arrive in theaters this weekend with Jim Carrey doing his familiar rubber face schtick, you might remember that at one point "Greenberg" duo Noah Baumbach and Ben Stiller were going to reteam on the film. Unfortunately, they both wound up dropping out but their work survived and when current director Mark Waters was first circling the project he was sent the script they put together. It was pretty out there, and he didn't get it at all.

2010 gave us two sides of Ben Stiller. We saw him in the excellent Noah Baumbach film "Greenberg" and watched him slum it in the absolutely dreadful "Little Fockers," Now, halfway through 2011, the actor is deciding what he'll do after he's finished up Brett Ratner's sort-of-promising ensemble comedy "Tower Heist."

Tackling the coming-of-age topic with dark humor and thoughtful style, Richard Ayoade's feature debut "Submarine" is more than an impressive first movie. From the incredible number of accomplished performers (Sally Hawkins, Noah Taylor, Paddy Considine, plus the astonishing teen actors Craig Roberts and Yasmin Paige) and the impeccable British/French New Wave-inspired looks, the British writer/director looks to be poising himself for a very promising filmmaking career.

While some people think we're kind of no-fun movie lovers who prefer our films foreign and depressing, the truth is we could probably out quote anyone when it comes to either "Anchorman" or "Zoolander" any day of the week. But any hopes of seeing Ron Burgundy or Derek Zoolander again on the big screen lie at the table of the execs at Paramount. As we already know, the proposed musical sequel to "Anchorman" was rejected by the studio last summer as they felt the price tag for the film would have been too high. With that film now on the sidelines until somebody comes to their senses, attention has focused in on the gestating "Zoolander 2."

Gore Verbiniski No Longer DirectingTwentieth Century Fox's remake of the Danny Kaye-starrer "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty," is a project that's been in development for literally decades. Over the years Ron Howard, Steven Spielberg and more recently, Gore Verbinski were attached to direct the likes of Jim Carrey, Mike Myers, Sacha Baron Cohen, Will Ferrell and Owen Wilson in the lead role, about a timid daydreamer and his many fantasy lives. None of those incarnations ever got off the ground but now the film has fresh life once again as another top tier comic actor has linked up with the headlining part.

While Paramount rejected plans for an "Anchorman 2," Ben Stiller and Justin Theroux have been hard at work to the sequel of their own hit comedy, "Zoolander." For much of last year, the project played second fiddle to the Will Ferrell vehicle, but no matter, as Stiller and Theroux have been plugging away at the script. But catching up with Empire recently, the former revealed that the script is done, in the hands of the studio and now it's up to them to decide what happens next.

Filming Begins Next SummerWhile we'll always long for the never-made version of "Greenberg" with Mark Ruffalo and Amy Adams, the fact that Ben Stillerand Noah Baumbach are now total besties means that financing probably comes much, much easier for the indie auteur, and if that means he gets more films greenlit, then who are we to complain? It was with much excitement that reports broke earlier in the month that Baumbach was quickly gearing up another film, "While We're Young," a relationship film (shock!) with Ben Stiller and James Franco set to star, and with offers out to both Cate Blanchett and Greta Gerwig. And while we love both actresses, it looks like only one of them will make it to the set.

Jessica Alba Denies Screenwriters Diss Comments, Ben Stiller Talks 'Zoolander 2,' & MoreFamily patriarch Jack Byrnes wants to appoint a successor. Does his son-in-law, the "male nurse," Greg Focker have what it takes? Yup, it's "Little Fockers," the third film in the "Meet The Parents" trilogy. This time, director Jay Roach sat back as a producer and Paul Weitz ("American Pie," "About a Boy") took over the filmmaking reigns. All the old gang returned: Ben Stiller, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman, Barbra Streisand, Blythe Danner, Teri Polo plus some new additions in Jessica Alba, Laura Dern, and Harvey Keitel. And yes, Owen Wilson reprised his role from the first film.
