Simon Killer
Simon (Brady Corbet) is lost. After being dumped by his high school sweetheart after a relationship that ran the length of their college years, the newly graduated, newly single American flees to Paris to get away from it all and find himself. Of course, the problem with undertaking such a journey of self-discovery is assuming that one will like what they find…

What can you do to nurse a broken heart? Find solace in a bag of Cheetos, get right back into the dating game, take some time for yourself -- there are many ways to mend those wounds. For Simon in Antonio Campos' ("Afterschool") latest film, Paris is the place to be, but that's just the start of the story.

In a short yet effective span of time, Brady Corbet has quietly turned in a range of stellar supporting and co-lead performances, from Gregg Araki's “Mysterious Skin” to the more recent “Martha Marcy May Marlene.” But Antonio Campos' latest, "Simon Killer" is a star revelation for Corbet -- his role is chilling, confident, and unblinking -- and now the actor has decided to take his talents behind the camera.

Given that he starred in the disastrous "Thunderbirds," it's pleasing (but perhaps not that surprising) that Brady Corbet has grown up to be one of the more uncompromising actors of his generation. There's been the occasional "Law & Order" or "24" on the CV, but for the last few years, Corbet's stuck closer to films more like "Thirteen" and "Mysterious Skin," in which he made his name.

"The Amazing Spider-Man" didn't do everything right. In fact, it did an awful lot wrong. But one thing that Marc Webb's summer superhero picture did nail was the casting. The smaller roles were played by heavyweights like Martin Sheen, Sally Field and Denis Leary, who all brought new twists to familiar characters, while in the leads, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone proved to be about as appealing of a central couple as you could ever ask for in such a film, their chemistry pretty much carrying the film when all else round it fell apart.

This time last year, "Martha Marcy May Marlene" was the toast of Sundance, an impossibly tense drama that, even by the end of 2011, still stood tall as one of the year's best films. Last January, "Afterschool" helmer Antonio Campos was in Park City in his capacity as a producer (he's one third of Borderline Films along with 'Martha Marcy' director Sean Durkin and Josh Mond), but twelve months later, he's back as director, with another intense character study, "Simon Killer."

After being relatively quiet following the icy Haneke-inspired "Afterschool," New York director Antonio Campos returns with not one, but two directing projects.
