Jenny Lewis Just One Of The Guys Anne Hathaway
It has been six years since Jenny Lewis' previous solo album, Acid Tongue, but she's been busy. In the interim, she dropped the collaborative I'm Having Fun Now under Jenny & Jonny, and she also did film work, scoring and writing songs for the indie flicks "Very Good Girls" and "Song One." Drinking Buddies
For the uninitiated, indie filmmaker Joe Swanberg’s career kind of runs like this (reductively of course): 8 bazillion indies, about 10 a year, from 2005 to 2012 (ok, maybe more like 13 features in seven years with a bunch of shorts thrown in for good measure). They are… ok. But the SXSW Film Festival loves them, dubs them mumblecore and his positioned as the next great white hope for indie filmmaking. People like Noah Baumbach throw some endorsements (and exec-produce a film), but as the heir apparent of anything, well, buzz is always impractical anyhow.

Brie Larson,21 Jump Street
An array of casting news has filtered down today, so let's just get to it. First up, Brie Larson has signed up to star in the adaptation of Emma Donoghue's critically acclaimed, best-selling novel "Room." Lenny Abrahamson, who broke out with "What Richard Did" and has the already hotly buzzed "Frank" on the way, will direct this one about "a woman kidnapped as a teenager who has been held captive for years in a tiny room where she lives with her 5-year-old son Jack. To the boy, Room is the only home he’s ever known."

Brie Larson, Community
She’s had the success of “Short Term 12,” which put her on the map as a serious actress (one which many suggested was Oscar-worthy), and she showed her supporting mettle in “21 Jump Street” and “The Spectacular Now” plus a recent successful turn on “Community” (see the image above). And now actress Brie Larson is moving up the ranks and will join Judd Apatow’s next film, “Trainwreck.”

Brie Larson The Good Luck Of Right Now
So, here's equation: the star of "Short Term 12" + a movie based on the novel written by the guy who penned "Silver Linings Playbook" + the directors of "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Ruby Sparks" = sign us up.

Received wisdom says that most years, including this one, the Best Actress field of contenders for the Oscars is "weaker" than their male counterparts, with a fairly limited group of possibilities who are plausible nominees. To which we can only say: horseshit. Every year, but this one in particular, we watch scores of fine female performances be overlooked because they're in small indie movies or because they were overshadowed in reviews by male co-stars or because they're not Meryl Streep.

25 Breakthrough Artists of 2013
One of the great pleasures of being a movie fan is the discovery of new performers. Faces that, months earlier, you'd have passed by in the street, suddenly gifted the role of a lifetime, and whose lives will never be the same again. It feels to us that 2013 was an especially strong year for new faces: festivals like Sundance, SXSW and Cannes, not to mention films that went straight to wide release, unleashed a veritable hurricane of talent that we'll be seeing for years to come.
