It looks like there's another place to keep your eye on when it comes to developing news about big movies. The dudes at Schmoes Know have been on a tear this week, with a handful of their scoops getting confirmed by the trades and tonight is no different. Just a couple of days after they first reported it, THR confirms that "Terminator 5" is looking for Sarah Connor, and adds that the hunt is on for John Connor as well.

12 Years A Slave
... and here we go. Even though we're not even in November, and with two more months of movies and awards season contenders to come, the Gotham Independent Film Awards have announced their nominees for 2013. While this may be "the first major awards ceremony of the film season," the real accomplishment here is shining a light on the kind of well-made, acclaimed movies that will unfortunately be forgotten as the heavier hitters with more money behind them elbow their way to the Dolby Theater in February.

It finally looks like Brie Larson's time has arrived. The actress has wasted little time in capitalizing on the acclaim of her stint in "The United States Of Tara," lining up small roles in films by Noah Baumbach ("Greenberg"), Edgar Wright ("Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World") and Oren Moverman ("Rampart"). And this year, she leapt to leading lady status with a terrific turn in the tender "Short Term 12" which put her on even more radars. And while we were glad to see her in "Don Jon," it's almost criminal to cast someone of her talent in a movie and then keep her mute for most of the picture. But she won't have to worry about that with her next venture, in what is her biggest role to date.

Don Jon
Even though Joseph Gordon-Levitt's directorial debut "Don Jon" (formerly known as "Don Jon's Addiction") still has a few weeks or so before it hits theaters (with a release date of September 27th), we've started to see the trickling of promotional materials from a "pretty damn charming" trailer to a clip featuring Tony Danza checking out Scarlett Johansson. The "porn addiction comedy" about a New Jersey guy whose porn-watching habits affect his day-to-day life has already received some rave reviews at Sundance and SXSW—our own critic-on-the-ground at Sundance described it as "a beguiling romantic comedy with a heart, soul and pulse that will pleasure you for a full 90 minutes with hardly breaking a sweat."

Short Term 12, Brie Larson
It’s Nate’s (Rami Malek) first day at the adolescent foster care facility Short Term 12, and his new coworker Mason (John Gallagher Jr., scruffy and soulful) is regaling the staff with a silly monologue about an unfortunate sharting incident he suffered in the line of duty. It's a funny tale, but it also lays out exactly what kind of people these workers are, willing to forego all bodily comfort in order to make sure these kids are okay. They’re a no nonsense bunch who’ve seen it all and remain unflappable, particularly supervisor Grace (Brie Larson), a steely and impenetrable young woman. They don’t even blink when a skinny kid with bright red hair goes bolting out of the house in his long johns, making a break for it. They just toss their coffee and tackle him on the front lawn before he gets past the gate and past their jurisdiction. This is the opening to “Short Term 12,” the second feature from writer/director Destin Daniel Cretton, based on his short film of the same name, which won the Jury Prize at Sundance in 2009. And even though it is a lightly amusing intro to our main characters and where they work, it’s a strong set up for the themes that will be revisited throughout the film, in the touching story of these young workers and their charges.

Brie Larson, the 23-year-old actress known for roles in "The United States of Tara," "Scott Pilgrim vs. the World," and "21 Jump Street," is having a moment. In fact, she was crowned the unofficial "It Girl" of the 2013 SXSW Film Festival by us and many others. Why exactly? She had (count 'em) four films at the festival this week. They include the Sundance hits "The Spectacular Now" and Joseph Gordon Levitt's directorial debut, "Don Jon," her second co-directed short film, "Weighting" and lastly, "Short Term 12," the movie which won SXSW's coveted top Grand Jury prize this spring.

21 Jump Street Brie Larson Jonah Hill
A few months ago we ran into Brie Larson and asked her if she'd be returning for the hotly anticipated sequel to last year's surprise breakthrough "21 Jump Street." She sounded totally in and was looking forward to returning to the lighter world of big budget studio fare after spending a lean year making thought-provoking independent features (like this summer's amazing "The Spectacular Now" and "Short Term 12"). Apparently, this is no longer the case, as she recently told ScreenCrush that she would not be back for another round of R-rated hilarity alongside Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill.

Imogen Poots
Though the producing team of Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach would seem a fast-track into existence for any project, director Peter Bogdanovich has still encountered a wave of woes in mounting his latest Lubitsch-inspired effort, “Squirrel To The Nuts.” Luckily, the screwball comedy gained new life with news of its two cast leads, Owen Wilson and Brie Larson, but now it appears one-half of that lineup will swap out with another player.
