Interstellar trailer
So, is Christopher Nolan's "Interstellar" gearing up to be the biggest blockbuster about agriculture ever? That's certainly the last word on it, as the always secrecy prone filmmaker hasn't let any details yet slip out about his movie.

It's been brewing for a while, but John Hillcoat's cop thriller "Triple Nine" is slowly but surely putting together a helluva cast. Over the summer, Cate Blanchett, Christoph Waltz and Charlie Hunnam all got involved, and while one has been lost since, more exciting choices have come aboard.

The Affleck brothers are presently carving out freedom within the film world in their own unique ways—Ben Affleck as the successful actor-turned-director and now heir to the Batman throne, and Casey Affleck as the quietly transgressive player in the independent scene with “Ain’t Them Bodies Saints” and “I’m Still Here." They each have a number of projects on their plate, with Ben handling Bat-duties alongside a number of acting and directing gigs and Casey involved with Christopher Nolan’s “Interstellar” and David Lowery’s sci-fi “To Be Two.” But now we have word on two collaborations: one between brothers, and one between Ben and actor Matt Damon.

Out Of The Furnace
In telling the story of a fundamentally decent man's descent into violence and retribution, Scott Cooper's “Out of the Furnace” plants its cues of chilly neo-noir in the claustrophobic corners of America's Rust Belt, and then nearly gets away with its own high-minded meditations. Loyalty and consequence collide in the “Crazy Heart” director's sophomore feature (from Cooper's rewrite of a script originally by Brad Inglesby), but while those themes eventually result in payoffs that are noticeably muted and confused, the film is luckily powered by a powerful trio of performances at its core, and a unique, unpredictable structure that constantly reframes the action in a compelling way.

Out of the Furnace
It’s hard not to feel that instead of a mild, fleeting upset of Hollywood traditions with the Joaquin Phoenix “documentary” “I’m Still Here," its director Casey Affleck was aiming more for an industry meltdown on par with that of Phoenix’s in the film. However, the town was stubborn, and punished Affleck and Phoenix for their attempts with indifference -- the best move was to act as if nothing had occurred.

I'm Still Here, Affleck, Phoenix
It’s interesting to look back on “I’m Still Here,” the faux-documentary that Casey Affleck & Joaquin Phoenix co-conceived in the late aughts about the nature of fame and celebrity. Directed by Affleck, starring Phoenix, and released in 2010, the now notorious documentary was of course, a big put-on that rankled many, including David Letterman. But for almost two years, Affleck and Phoenix stuck to their guns with this cinematic prank: the actor playing the part of a disheveled and downward-spiraling actor completely out of control. The actor took character into the public sphere and the director stuck to the story that he was simply documenting Phoenix’s new career path into rapping (which climaxed with a bizarre and infamous David Letterman appearance, and then concluded with a denouement of the actor apologizing to the talk show host some 18 months later). Considering how committed they were to the faux-doc, it was an impressive media art-prank, but many didn’t see it that way and critics unfairly savaged the movie.

Out Of The Furnace
AFI Film Festival premiered Scott Cooper's "Out of the Furnace" over the weekend, and we were there. And the verdict? Well, according to Charlie Schmidlin, the film starts strong but loses power by time the third act rolls around, essentially "creating a complexity rather than letting its characters show us one." Still, for those of waiting anxious to see the film nonetheless, it's still one high on our watch list before the end of the year and another look at the movie is keeping up that excitement.

Out Of The Furnace Christian Bale Woody Harrelson
The bond between brothers is one that can't be broken by distance or circumstance, but it can be tested, and it's that chain that's rattled in the upcoming "Out Of The Furnace." As the film gets ready to roll into the awards season mix, a brand new trailer is here, and it looks quite promising indeed.
