Eclectic Filmmaker Talks James Franco, 'My Private Idaho,' Dennis Hopper & His New Coming-Of-Age RomanceThe title of Gus Van Sant’s latest picture, “Restless” might as well describe the director himself. Genre-hopping, making movies for both the Hollywood system and himself, and long a fixture on the indie film scene, he’s undoubtedly one of the most significant American filmmakers working today. His lastest is a far cry from his more experimental entries like "Gerry," "Last Days" or even the "Psycho" remake, tackling the story of two teens in love even as one of them suffers from terminal cancer. It's yet another new direction for Van Sant and one that will likely land him new fans while giving longtime followers of the director something else to discuss and consider as part of his eclectic filmography.

Rebecca Hall, Rachel Weisz & Naomi Watts Wishlist Candidates For Female Lead RolesRanked #35 on the Black List in 2009, Dave Mandel's script for the true story tale "The Trade" has been in the works for a while and was first announced as a starring vehicle for Ben Affleck and Matt Damon last winter. The story is based on real-life players Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich, who in 1973 revealed that they had been swapping wives and fell for each other's partners. Peterson and Kekich's ex-wife are still together today, while the other couple has since split up with Kekich later remarrying. Affleck would play the role of Peterson with Matt Damon playing Kekich. Last fall, the project heated up again as the brothers Affleck, Ben and Casey, would be rewriting the script, however, it seems the film could be in for a bumpy ride.

Comic Crime Caper To Hit Theaters In Early 2012When Harvey Weinstein aggressively goes after something he usually gets it. Case in point. The Weinstein Company honcho has acquired domestic distribution rights to Aussie director Andrew Dominik's follow-up to “The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford” (a picture that won Brad Pitt one of his first major awards; 2007's Best Actor prize in Venice). Thanks to his new bevy of investors, Harvey has dollars and clout and apparently slapped down a $20 million dollar promise for promotion and advertising alone for Dominik's latest, "Cogan's Trade," a pretty weighty pledge for TWC.

Filming Begins In Louisiana In MarchOf all the projects announced in 2010 -- "The Dark Knight Rises," the untitled Terence Malick, "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son" -- none excited us quite as much as "Cogan's Trade." The long-awaited return of Andrew Dominik -- who made a scorching debut with "Chopper" before returning with one of the best, if not the best, film of the decade in "The Assassination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford" -- is an adaptation of the pulp crime novel by George V. Higgins (the author of "The Friends Of Eddie Coyle,)" about a mob enforcer trying to track down the thieves who ripped off a high stakes card game.

Casey Affleck, Javier Bardem, Sam Rockwell, Mark Ruffalo All Circling, Pitt Could Also Star In 'The Gray Man' We're not going to lie, we're a little aroused right now. One of The Playlist's favorite films of recent years (and this writer's very favorite of the last decade), "The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford," saw Australian director Andrew Dominik come on leaps and bounds from his excellent debut "Chopper," and produce a lyrical, profound, beautifully-acted, eye-meltingly beautiful Western for the ages. Unfortunately, audiences stayed away from the nearly-three hour film in droves, and it's taken some time for Andrew Dominik to get another project going.
