While George Clooney has more than few options for his next directorial outing, it seems "The Monuments Men" is picking up steam. First announced at the beginning of the year, the movie sounds like -- as one writer of the site said: "The Train" meets "Inglourious Basterds" but as directed by Clooney and therefore potentially awesome. Now toss in a potential cast that includes Jean Dujardin, Cate Blanchett and Paul Giamatti? Yeah, we'd be all over that.

With this week’s release of “The Amazing Spider-Man” -- and "The Dark Knight Rises" just around the corner -- we’re at the halfway point of the summer blockbuster season. But there will be big spectacles to come right through to the end of the year, including Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.”

Most of the non-music career news about Barbra Streisand in the past little while has been about her taking a role in the brewing big screen remake of "Gypsy" set to be penned by "Downton Abbey" writer Julian Fellowes, but it looks like Babs has a little trick up her sleeve, and something that will come first.

Terrence Malick, a director who not long ago was famed for the vast lengths of time between his film releases, now has no less than three (or is it four?) projects at various stages of development. In fact, we’re constantly having to remind ourselves which film is which when a new piece of information arises. Well some new pictures have turned up from a Malick set and they feature Cate Blanchett, Christian Bale and Natalie Portman so by a process of elimination we’ve worked out that we must be talking about “Knight of Cups.” Oh, wait, they’re all starring in his untitled movie as well, aren’t they? See how this can get confusing!

In the days before Andrew Garfield was Peter Parker or Eduardo Saverin , the actor made a name for himself as a blue collar worker trying to hide a dark past in John Crowley's excellent debut "Boy A.". Years later, the actor is now on the brink of stardom but Brit helmer Crowley, a stage veteran behind the likes of "The Pillowman" and Hugh Jackman/Daniel Craig Broadway hit "A Steady Rain," as well as the Michael Caine-starring "Is Anybody There" hasn't quite skyrocketed in the same way. However he's currently shooting a tantalizing-sounding thriller starring Eric Bana and Rebecca Hall, and he's now set to team two major talents for literary adaptation that's more than a little promising

For a moment there, it looked we wouldn't be getting our annual dose of Woody Allen next year. We figured that with the director busy with a rare acting gig in John Turturro's "Fading Gigolo" and preparing "Bullets Over Broadway" for Broadway in 2013, he wouldn't have time to get behind the camera as he does each summer. Turns out, Allen is sticking to the schedule and continues to build the cast for his next movie.

Woody Allen is like a little neurotic, Jewish Energizer bunny. With "To Rome With Love" in the bag and set for release this summer, his calendar is no less full, with a starring role in John Turturro's "Fading Gigolo" around the corner, and a Broadway bound "Bullets Over Broadway" in the works. And though his next film isn't slated to shoot until early 2013, Allen is apparently already eyeballing a cast.

While omnibus projects generally tend to be hit and miss affairs, they are intriguing in that they usually give directors a chance to try something they wouldn't or couldn't normally do in a feature, as well as exercise their skills within the tighter constraints of the format. Or in the case of "The Turning," it will allow a couple of actresses the chance to get their feet wet behind the camera.

While Cannes Film Festival prognosticators continue to ponder if one or both of Terrence Malick's two films in post-production -- "The Voyage Of Time" and his still untitled romance, aka "The Burial" -- will make it to the Croisette, all we can do is keep pulling together the scraps of info, while we wait for the movies to appear.
