Channing Tatum, White House Down
Okay, unless you can't find a babysitter, do people really bring their kids to job interviews or is that just a movie thing? Anyway, it's the device used to establish in "White House Down" that: a) Channing Tatum's buff hero is also sensitive and caring b) It's gives him Something To Fight For and c) it sets the whole story (implausibly) in motion. Now can we get to the explosions please?

When he's not spending his newfound retirement from film dropping novella truths on Twitter and promoting “Beyond the Candelabra,” Steven Soderbergh is also lending a hand to Channing Tatum on the sequel to their hit drama “Magic Mike.” Both have obviously cut out questions of a cash-in, and in a recent interview with the director, he's pushed their case further as well as hinted at the film's plot.

After Sony failed to make good on its promise that the “21 Jump Street” sequel would shoot last fall, we were disappointed, but never truly doubted that we would be seeing a second film. You don’t just leave critically acclaimed and commercially successful stuff like that alone nowadays. Anyway, it looks like our faith has been justified, and a sequel is still in the works.

It seems this year's Hollywood sci-fi blockbusters have found screenwriters just plain tossing out the book of baby names. From Cypher and Kitai Raige in "After Earth" to Raleigh Becket and Stacker Pentecost in "Pacific Rim," it seems a good, sci spectacle requires character names that are so unique, you'll still struggle to remember them. But maybe it's just the genre as a whole as "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" is nothing but adventurous names (Plutarch Heavensbee!) while "Ender's Game" will get us closer to people like Mazer Rackham and Dink Meeker.

Review: 'G.I. Joe: Retaliation' Is No Masterpiece, But Popcorn Entertainment That Redeems The Series Somewhat

Channing Tatum and Dwayne Johnson in G.I. Joe: Retaliation
It’s tough to say if I would be as generous with my praise of “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” if I weren’t such a big fan of its director, Jon M. Chu, but given the mechanical one-dimensionality of most big-budget franchise films, the sequel earns its critical bona fides simply by being made by a director who has sincere affection for the source material. Although its delay from the summer of 2012 to spring 2013 spawned rumors of a troubled production, extensive reshoots, and a last-minute effort to squeeze the now-hot Channing Tatum into more scenes, Chu’s follow-up is remarkably cohesive – a fun, sweeping and yet understated sequel that should whet the appetites of action fans without overdosing them on pop confectionaries before the summer buffet truly starts.

No one quite suits the title of Master of Disaster quite like Roland Emmerich, the director behind such bombastically apocalyptic visions as "Independence Day," "Godzilla," "The Day After Tomorrow" and "2012." Emmerich has gleefully destroyed major monuments, turning the White House into kindling and New York City into a giant frozen puddle. In his latest oversized spectacle "White House Down," starring Channing Tatum as a put-upon would-be Secret Service agent and Jamie Foxx as the endangered Commander-in-Chief, Emmerich returns to the location of his most iconic detonation, this time exploring the bonds between father and daughter while also blowing up a lot of stuff and having many people get shot in gloriously violent ways. Earlier today we got a peek at the trailer (which you can watch below) as well as a glimpse of about ten minutes of additional footage. While the movie doesn’t come out until June 28th, we're pretty sure that it's going to be one of the summer's most satisfying blockbusters.

Heavy on the brawn, light on the brains – the “G.I. Joe” franchise is back. Manned with the usual selection of muscle headed talent, and the odd addition of Bruce Willis (guess he had bills to pay), the second instalment, “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” is stepping up its promotion with the release of three teaser clips While former G.I. Joe-ers Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Sienna Miller have wisely bowed out of round 2, Dwayne Johnson (or “The Rock” to testosterone enthusiasts) will be subbing in to take the lead alongside Willis, and Channing Tatum, who is returning to secure the female vote.

So, the Oscars are over, and you're likely waking up today with a nacho cheese hangover and still wondering why so much of the broadcast was dedicated to "Chicago" and "Dreamgirls." But if you still had any kind of energy left over from the four-hour slog, perhaps you stayed up to watch "Jimmy Kimmel Live." And if not? Well, we have the magic of YouTube.
