Three Hearts
Benoît Jacquot is a festival veteran, last doing the rounds with 2012's costume drama "Farewell, My Queen." Now he's back with a more contemporary tale, riffing on an old theme, while rounding some exciting talent to tell his story. The film is called "Three Hearts," and with screenings at Venice and TIFF coming up soon, the first trailer has dropped.

Samba
A few years back, all anyone could talk about at the arthouse was "The Intouchables." It was the third most watched film in France in 2011, sitting at number one at the box office there for ten weeks. And not only was it a hit in its home country, but it traveled abroad widely, earning a grand total of $444.7 million worldwide and scooping up awards, while The Weinstein Company snapped up the remake rights. And now writer/directors Olivier Nakache and Eric Toledano are back with a followup.

Nymphomaniac Volume II
In case you thought Lars von Trier was done cheerfully provoking audiences via his two part opus "Nymphomaniac," guess again. The enfant terrible still has a director's cut up his sleeve, and after unveiling Volume I at the Berlin Film Festival (our review), he's hitting the Venice Film Festival with Volume II. As a bonus, the fest will will be the first place where both versions will be seen together. But if you can't be there, here's three graphic clips hinting at said director's cut. Warning: these clips are very NSFW.

Incompresa, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Asia Argento
There’s something irresistibly hip about Asia Argento, even as a concept. The sultry, pouty daughter of trash-horror maestro Dario Argento, her public image as a wild child jack-of-all-trades-as-long-as-they’re-kinda-glamorous (actress, singer, model, director) does make her something of a poster girl for tough, troubled, attitude-y cool (just check out her Cannes red carpet pic or her Twitter account for that matter). But after her first two forays into directing, “Scarlet Diva” (in which she also starred as a self-destructive starlet) and child abuse chronicle “The Heart is Deceitful Above All Things,” she has shifted gears in several ways with her third: she makes a brief, Hitchcock-level cameo but doesn’t star, and most welcome, she moves from straight-up miserablism to a beguiling cockeyed whimsy.

Incompresa, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Asia Argento
Earlier today we dropped our list of the 15 Most Anticipated Film Of The 2014 Cannes Film Festival, and while it's the highest profile titles that get the attention, we're always hoping for something to break out unexpectedly. Could Asia Argento's "Incompresa" be such a film?

Lars von Trier's two-part, multi-version “Nymphomaniac” is destined to divide opinion the way it is itself divided down the middle (and as if it wasn't different enough to different viewers, there are also multiple versions: this is a review of the shorter, theatrical cut of the second volume). If “Vol. I” felt at times like a long-winded dirty joke – meandering, incoherently provocative, self-indulgent without being fun enough to make up for it – then “Vol. II” might just be the punchline (though many found a lot to like in the first volume's exuberant array of explicit sexuality and bizarre analogy: for a positive take you can read our review on Part I here). It's an extremely long way from being a perfect film, but undoubtedly (and whatever you thought of “Vol. I”), there's enough going on in the second volume to keep you stroking your chins (or other, more...private...parts).

Nymphomaniac
It's probably safe to say that making Lars von Trier's two-part sex epic "Nymphomaniac" was far from the usual film experience. But even for Charlotte Gainsbourg, making her third movie with the director following "Antichrist" and "Melancholia," the production offered up some interesting decisions for the actress. Namely, she got to pick her own sex stunt double.

Lars von Trier is going to Hell. The devil, after all, has all the best tunes, and on the evidence of "Nymphomaniac Part 1," which has its world premiere in its unexpurgated, director-preferred 145-minute version at the Berlin Film Festival, von Trier is a maestro at his zenith, conducting what may very well be his magnum opus. It is a symphony, or perhaps a thrusting, punk-inflected heavy metal power grind of rude, funny, sexy, sad, gross, pretentious, meta and brilliant, and sometimes all of these things at the same time. But out of what should be discordant, salacious, self-indulgent and ugly, von Trier, through sheer storytelling and filmmaking chutzpah, has crafted something witty and clever and thrilling, that absorbed our attention like a sponge and displayed, beneath all that brio, a kind of wisdom we haven't seen before from the filmmaker.

Nymphomaniac
With a surprise screening at the Sundance Film Festival, and a debut of the uncut first part at the Berlin Film Festival next month, it's safe to say Lars von Trier's "Nymphomaniac" is still one of the most talked about movies of the year. And here's yet another look at the movie to get you talking.

Nymphomaniac
"My next film, and Kirsten [Dunst] demanded it, will be porn. That's how women are. Really hard core. That's what I'm writing now," Lars Von Trier told a Cannes Film Festival press conference back in 2011. And we all had a good laugh, but here we are three years later with the director's two part epic "Nymphomaniac" is already rolling out overseas and slated to open stateside this spring. And it looks like we weren't the only ones who thought Lars was just fucking with us.
