Nymphomaniac, trailer
While Americans fought the crowds and sometimes each other to score discounts on Black Friday, for the rest of the world it was business as usual. And for Lars von Trier and company, that meant yet another provocative clip from "Nymphomaniac," but this time with a bit of holiday spirit.

And we all thought “Antichrist” was fucked up—sexually, emotionally and psychologically. Though Lars Von Trier did a moody left turn with his operatic depression comedy “Melancholia” (hear me out—the first half with the wedding from hell is hilarious... the rest, admittedly not so much), it’s entirely possible “Antichrist” was just a warmup for his latest movie, the four-hour (maybe 5.5 hrs one day) “Nymphomaniac,” which, at least from the trailers, proves that Von Trier has not mellowed with age and isn’t done challenging or terrorizing his audiences.

Whether coming from the generally more conservative American studio system or the much more nudity friendly European arthouse system, marketing an epic, two-movie, sex-and-flesh filled saga called "Nymphomaniac" is no easy task. But the folks behind Lars von Trier's provocative latest have been doing it right, with monthly teasers and today, a little surprise with the unveiling of 14 character posters. And it's some beautifully strange stuff.

World War Z
By now, we all pretty much know about the struggles the filmmakers had while making “World War Z.” In spite of the fact that the film actually turned out to be a major success, initial reports of its “inevitable failure” hit everyone involved with the film pretty hard. The Hollywood Reporter has a very interesting piece about Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B (who made the film). The article goes into how criticism of the production of "World War Z" affected the producers involved, mentally, and they delve into how the surprise success of the film, along with the positive festival response of “12 Years a Slave” has left the company feeling pretty good about themselves.

While Vince Vaughn is best known for his motormouth in a wide array of comedies, he's been desperate to do something a bit more gritty. Over the past while, he's been lining up no shortage of more serious-minded fare like the the thriller "The Risk Agent," the Randall Wallace-penned "Gunslingers" and road adventure "Triple Time." But it looks like another project has the momentum to cast the actor in a whole new light.

In the works for about a year now, you may have missed the announcement, Wim Wenders' next feature film is now in front of cameras in the lovely city of Montreal. In addition to the previously revealed James Franco, the picture also bolstered its cast with Charlotte Gainsbourg and Marie-Josée Croze. Now another actress has joined the picture, and one that makes the project all the more enticing.

With all the hoopla surrounding the impressive TIFF and Venice lineups, we kind of totally forgot the movie very, very high on our must-see list for this year (should it actually hit theaters on our shores by the end of 2013), Lars Von Trier's sex epic "Nymphomaniac." Those words alone — nymphomaniac, Lars, sex, Von, epic, Trier — should be all you need to know to buy a ticket, but the marketing slow roll has been building up buzz and questionable erections.

Oh, Lars! Even though the provocateur won't be at the Cannes Film Festival this year (it's cool, whenever he's ready he'll be welcomed back), the first poster for Lars Von Trier's upcoming "Nymphomaniac" will surely get some amazing attention on the sales/marketing floor on the Croisette.

Things are going very well for Lea Seydoux. After having a very short appearance in the opening of Quentin Tarantino’s “Inglourious Basterds” -- she played one of the daughters of the French farmer Christoph Waltz interrogates -- Seydoux appeared in the films of Ridley Scott and Woody Allen, and she recently added Wes Anderson to her list of auteurs with her role in his upcoming “The Grand Budapest Hotel” (and as the star of the Anderson and Roman Coppola co-directed Prada ads). The French actress, however, hasn’t forgotten about her homeland as she’s set to join Benoit Jacquot’s “Three Hearts” ("Trois coeurs") alongside two other French stars.

With winter's chill still felt, the spring might seem far away, and while we will have our attention on the Berlin International Film Festival and SXSW in March, we're only a few months away from the Cannes Film Festival. Easily the most prestigious movie festival on the calendar, we'll soon start to see talk heat up about what films will -- and won't -- be making an appearance. And while Lars von Trier's hugely buzzed "Nymphomaniac" has been grabbing headlines in recent days as buyers swarm the movie in Berlin, it won't be headed to the Cannes for a premiere like many speculated. But not for the reason you're thinking of.
