So remember a couple of months ago when the internet momentarily freaked when they though they got a first look at Tilda Swinton in "Snowpiercer"? Well, it turned out be an old photo from a fashion shoot, but she's finally revealed in these new character posters for "Snowpiercer" and it's still pretty surprising. Awesomely so.

Chris Evans, Snow Piercer
In a few short weeks, the Cannes Film Festival will unveil their slate for 2013, and while speculation continues to swirl about which movies will make the trip to the south of France, one of the highly touted titles is Bong Joon-ho's "Snowpiercer." It's certainly been engaged in a slow-build marketing campaign, with posters and images dripping out here and there, and today comes another bit of interesting material with character posters for everyone involved.

Frank Miller isn't a complicated man, but his work does seem to suggest that he's fine with sticking to the "Sin City"/"The Spirit" millieu thankyouverymuch. And after teaming with Evan Rachel Wood and Chris Evans a couple of years ago for a stylish Gucci spot, the director has paired up with the actors again to make another ad for the fashion house.

Deadline is exclusively reporting news out of Toronto that the once-and-future Captain America Chris Evans and supremely underutilized Michelle Monaghan will co-star in "A Many Splintered Thing," for McG's Wonderland Sound & Vision and Voltage Pictures. Described in the report as "in the vein of 'Amelie' and '(500) Days of Summer'" (Manic Pixie Dream Girls, activate!), a self-described "anti-romantic comedy." The film will mark Evans' first outing as an executive producer.

Are we living in a post-gangster movie age? From the early talkies to the Oscar-winning success of “The Departed,” the genre has been ever-popular and responsible for seminal films from “White Heat” and “The Godfather” to “Goodfellas” and “Pulp Fiction.” But one struggles to think of a standout film in the genre since Scorsese's Oscar winner, with memorable mobsters now coming from television rather than the movies. We’re sure that someone will come along and give the form new life one of these days, but that reinvention of the wheel doesn’t come from Ariel Vroman’s “The Iceman,” which is decent enough, but fails to cover ground that hasn’t already been covered many times before.

If there's one genre that's more played out than the mob movie, it's the hitman picture. But can being based on a real-life tale give a film a little added edge when it falls into both categories? That's what the makers of "The Iceman" are hoping, and a stellar cast, led by Oscar-nominee Michael Shannon, and a premiere at the Venice Film Festival, out of competition, are certainly boding well. And a few new images from the film, for which you can read the official synopsis below, have arrived on the TIFF website, where it'll head after the Lido.

If it's somehow escaped your notice, "The Avengers" is in theaters today. One of the biggest gambles in blockbuster history, it looks to have paid off: the reviews have been hugely positive, it's already closing on $300 million from the international box office, and stands to break records over this weekend in the U.S. too.

For all the many strengths of "The Avengers," there's one that writer-director Joss Whedon can't take credit for: the casting. Of the main characters, only one, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/The Hulk, hasn't appeared in one of the previous five Marvel movies that have led to this point. So given the casting committee that assembled The Avengers, it's something of a miracle that it's ended up with one of the most enjoyable collection of actors in a big tentpole movie for quite some time.

After years of rumors, what ifs and hearsay, perhaps the most unlikely -- and certainly the most ambitious -- comic book movie of all time is finally hitting theaters this weekend. Beyond the mere logistical nightmare of pairing this massive cast with the equally massive budget required for such an undertaking, the green light for an “The Avengers” movie was dependent on the success of five other films before it. But here we are, with the film set to take North America by storm with hugely positive buzz and fanboys salivating for the penultimate moment when they finally hear “Avengers assemble!” echo across the megaplex.
