Thor 2, Thor: The Dark World
Starting with a preview in the Phase One boxset, Marvel has been efficiently building up to the first trailer for "Thor: The Dark World" with a poster and fresh stills in the last few days. And now it's officially here (after partially leaking late last night), and yes, it's bringing the epic.

Michael Mann has never been the most prolific filmmaker, but it’s rare during the course of his career that he’s taken any more than three years between films. We assume that it is largely down to the ill-fated HBO show “Luck” that Mann hasn’t had a film in cinemas since “Public Enemies” in 2009, but it looks like we won’t be waiting too much longer with his currently untitled cyber theft thriller set to go in front of cameras in China next month.

With the "Iron Man 3" campaign pretty much wrapped as the sequel opens this week internationally, Marvel is now putting their marketing efforts into "Thor: The Dark World," which isn't due in theaters for another seven months. But hey, there's no time like the present.

You can bet that with "Iron Man 3" opening in just a couple of weeks, Marvel isn't going to miss a hot second to promote their other superhero movie this year, "Thor: The Dark World." So perhaps in advance of the eventual teaser trailer or teaser for the teaser trailer, the studio has dropped the first poster, and it's....well, you're not going to mistake this movie for anything else.

Just a couple of days after the UK trailer came tearing around the track, we now get a U.S. spot for Ron Howard's racing drama "Rush" along with some new pics for the movie that's revving its engine pretty hard, pretty early. We're still months away from the film arriving, but perhaps Universal realizes that racing movies probably need a bit of a harder push than other genres. Good thing that so far, it looks pretty rock solid.

We're now at four years since Michael Mann's last film, the cops 'n gangsters tale "Public Enemies," but the director seems to be getting close to making his next movie. Back in February it was revealed he was teaming with Chris Hemsworth for an untitled thriller set in the world of "set in the world of cyber threats and attacks." Not many other details were shared other than Mann was co-writing the script as well with Morgan Davis Foehl (currently penning the videogame adaptation "Mass Effect"). But a few more bits and pieces have been revealed.

The racing genre as a whole doesn't offer a lot to choose from, particularly when it comes to dramas that just stick to the race track and don't burn your retinas like "Speed Racer" or jack up your experience with 'splosions like the "Fast & Furious" franchise. In fact, it's been a while since we've had a movie set strictly on the race track, but Ron Howard's "Rush" is not only getting behind that wheel, but also telling a great story.

Man, when one door closes for Chris Hemsworth, another one just opens right up. With production on Steven Spielberg's "Robopocalypse" delayed until there's more work done on the script, what does the actor do? Oh, just sign up for a new film by Michael Mann, his first in four years. Damn.

This last week has been somewhat of a mixed bag for Steven Spielberg. Sure there’s been a whole host of Oscar nominations, but there’s also been the collapse of his highly anticipated adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s novel, “Robopocalypse.” The film, penned by “Cabin in the Woods” writer Drew Goddard, had already been allotted an April 25, 2014 release date, and had a tremendous lead cast being lined up including Anne Hathaway, Chris Hemsworth and Ben Whishaw. The official line from Spielberg’s spokesman was that the film was “too important and the script not ready, and it’s too expensive to produce. It’s back to the drawing board to see what’s possible.”

After a rough half-decade or so ("Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," "The Adventures of Tintin," "War Horse," failing to get "Harvey" made), Steven Spielberg is back to enjoying the kind of success he's used to; "Lincoln" is closing on $150 million domestically alone, and is likely to be the most nominated films when the Oscar nods are announced first thing tomorrow.
