After a rough half-decade or so ("Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," "The Adventures of Tintin," "War Horse," failing to get "Harvey" made), Steven Spielberg is back to enjoying the kind of success he's used to; "Lincoln" is closing on $150 million domestically alone, and is likely to be the most nominated films when the Oscar nods are announced first thing tomorrow.

Why is it that films that spend the longest time on the shelves feel so unfinished? Reportedly filmed three years ago, Dan Bradley’s strikingly incompetent “Red Dawn” is now being dumped in theaters, stitched together with scotch tape and falling apart at the seams, letting casual racism and misanthropy to spill out the sides.

Wait, we thought this dude was too busy? Having just dropped CBS Film's "American Assassin" due to "scheduling," this bit of news seems a bit odd. But we suppose the lure of winning with the Oscar-nominated writer of "Traffic" is a lure that's hard to resist. Toss in the potential to work with some bonafide A-listers? We understand.

It's been quite a year for Anne Hathaway, and for any actress, toplining (and some would argue stealing the show) Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" would have been more than enough. But the actress just hosted "Saturday Night Live" over the weekend (featuring that Rihanna performance against a desktop screensaver from seven years ago) and is getting into the Oscar fray with "Les Misérables." And next year? If all goes according to plan, she'll be working with a guy you may have heard of named Steven Spielberg.

Oh, hey, "Red Dawn." This is coming out next week? Or wait, the week after? We can't really remember, but a half-hearted campaign is sort of happening for the movie and a couple of clips landed this week in case you missed it.

It seems everyone wants a piece of "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth these days. Steven Spielberg is rounding him up for "Robopocalypse," Universal is eager for more 'Huntsman' and Ron Howard is revving him up in "Rush." Now, CBS Films is ready to give the actor yet another franchise.

To say that the infamous “Red Dawn” remake has been long delayed is an understatement -- Chris Hemsworth has been in three successful blockbusters since the remake was first completed -- but FilmDistrict is finally releasing the small-town USA invasion film next month in time for the second-most American holiday, Thanksgiving. In an effort to make sure all that time and effort (the villains were changed from an invading Chinese force to a North Korean one long after principal photography had wrapped) were worth it, the company is waging a campaign of its own to lure audiences to the theater and has released a brand new clip from the film.

After North Korean forces set foot on American soil in a clandestine invasion, one character utters that “this was bound to happen sooner or later.” He may just as well be referring to the fact that yet another beloved ‘80s title has been tapped for a remake by Hollywood; this time around, it’s “Red Dawn,” John Milius’ moderately beloved 1984 paean to small-town might and Soviet panic. Dan Bradley’s version won’t sway anyone who already construes the mere prospect of an update as something resembling sacrilege, and it’s unlikely to leave as potent an impact on its current generation, but it stands well enough on its own as an efficient, exciting tale of teenage insurgency.

"Red Dawn," the 1984 John Milius film, is a '80s cold-war classic. Not because it's amazing (it's a fun teen actioner), but because of the nostalgia factor involved. And hell, arriving in the heart of the tense Regan/Gorbachev years, it spoke to a lot of us growing up in the era of potential nuclear-war anxiety.

So, is this more post-scandal fallout for Kristen Stewart, or Universal sticking to a plan they hinted at a while ago? If we were to guess... it's probably the latter.
