We're now at four years since Michael Mann's last film, the cops 'n gangsters tale "Public Enemies," but the director seems to be getting close to making his next movie. Back in February it was revealed he was teaming with Chris Hemsworth for an untitled thriller set in the world of "set in the world of cyber threats and attacks." Not many other details were shared other than Mann was co-writing the script as well with Morgan Davis Foehl (currently penning the videogame adaptation "Mass Effect"). But a few more bits and pieces have been revealed.

The racing genre as a whole doesn't offer a lot to choose from, particularly when it comes to dramas that just stick to the race track and don't burn your retinas like "Speed Racer" or jack up your experience with 'splosions like the "Fast & Furious" franchise. In fact, it's been a while since we've had a movie set strictly on the race track, but Ron Howard's "Rush" is not only getting behind that wheel, but also telling a great story.

Man, when one door closes for Chris Hemsworth, another one just opens right up. With production on Steven Spielberg's "Robopocalypse" delayed until there's more work done on the script, what does the actor do? Oh, just sign up for a new film by Michael Mann, his first in four years. Damn.

This last week has been somewhat of a mixed bag for Steven Spielberg. Sure there’s been a whole host of Oscar nominations, but there’s also been the collapse of his highly anticipated adaptation of Daniel H. Wilson’s novel, “Robopocalypse.” The film, penned by “Cabin in the Woods” writer Drew Goddard, had already been allotted an April 25, 2014 release date, and had a tremendous lead cast being lined up including Anne Hathaway, Chris Hemsworth and Ben Whishaw. The official line from Spielberg’s spokesman was that the film was “too important and the script not ready, and it’s too expensive to produce. It’s back to the drawing board to see what’s possible.”

After a rough half-decade or so ("Kingdom of the Crystal Skull," "The Adventures of Tintin," "War Horse," failing to get "Harvey" made), Steven Spielberg is back to enjoying the kind of success he's used to; "Lincoln" is closing on $150 million domestically alone, and is likely to be the most nominated films when the Oscar nods are announced first thing tomorrow.

Why is it that films that spend the longest time on the shelves feel so unfinished? Reportedly filmed three years ago, Dan Bradley’s strikingly incompetent “Red Dawn” is now being dumped in theaters, stitched together with scotch tape and falling apart at the seams, letting casual racism and misanthropy to spill out the sides.

Wait, we thought this dude was too busy? Having just dropped CBS Film's "American Assassin" due to "scheduling," this bit of news seems a bit odd. But we suppose the lure of winning with the Oscar-nominated writer of "Traffic" is a lure that's hard to resist. Toss in the potential to work with some bonafide A-listers? We understand.

It's been quite a year for Anne Hathaway, and for any actress, toplining (and some would argue stealing the show) Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises" would have been more than enough. But the actress just hosted "Saturday Night Live" over the weekend (featuring that Rihanna performance against a desktop screensaver from seven years ago) and is getting into the Oscar fray with "Les Misérables." And next year? If all goes according to plan, she'll be working with a guy you may have heard of named Steven Spielberg.

Oh, hey, "Red Dawn." This is coming out next week? Or wait, the week after? We can't really remember, but a half-hearted campaign is sort of happening for the movie and a couple of clips landed this week in case you missed it.

It seems everyone wants a piece of "Thor" star Chris Hemsworth these days. Steven Spielberg is rounding him up for "Robopocalypse," Universal is eager for more 'Huntsman' and Ron Howard is revving him up in "Rush." Now, CBS Films is ready to give the actor yet another franchise.
