Horrible Bosses 2
"Horrible Bosses" was a fantastic concept. Get three strong comedians (Jason Bateman, Charlie Day, Jason Sudeikis), give them brutally bad bosses and cast them with some pretty big Hollywood names we don't often see playing these types of characters (Jennifer Aniston, Colin Farrell and Kevin Spacey—who we now know as the horrible politician from “House Of Cards,” but it had been a long time since he’d played someone so heartless and cruel).

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
Hollywood is still trying to make Chris Pine happen. Outside of the "Star Trek" franchise, the actor has been a non-starter, but that's not stopping Disney from choosing Pine to lead "The Finest Hours."

After his self-assured feature film debut—2000’s “George Washington”—few could have predicted the twists and turns that David Gordon Green’s filmography has taken. Working at a furiously fast pace, just when you think you've got him pegged, he confounds once more. Don’t let him make a remake of the horror “Suspiria”? Fine, he’ll go shoot “Prince Avalanche” in secret with some friends and announce it after it’s done. Expect him to make more studio comedies a la “The Sitter”? He’ll bang out two indie dramas in a row practically back to back—“Joe” starring Nicolas Cage which Roadside Attractions will release on April 11th of this year (trailer here) and “Manglehorn” starring Al Pacino which should hit the festival circuit later this fall.

While Joe Carnahan has lately been getting press for the movies he hasn't been able to make ("Daredevil" and potential Oscar winner "Death Wish"), you may have forgotten he's got "Stretch" in the can. The low budget comedy-thriller (it cost under $5 million) had been scheduled to hit theaters on March 21st, but perhaps the lack of a marketing campaign should've indicated something was afoot. Indeed, THR reports that Universal has dropped the movie from their schedule, with no current plans to release it in theaters.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
Today, most people associate the character of Jack Ryan—originally created by author Tom Clancy, in a number of blockbuster novels—as a kind of hard-hitting action hero. This is thanks in large part to the series of films that began with 1990's masterful thriller "The Hunt for Red October" and continued with two Harrison Ford-as-Ryan entries, as well as a forgettable stand-alone starring Ben Affleck as the brainy CIA analyst. But in the novels and best parts of the earlier movies, Ryan is described and dramatized as something of a nerd, so encased in his own thoughts that he finds it difficult to leap into action. This week's aggressively mediocre "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit," refashions the character (this time played by Chris Pine) into a man of immediate action, and in doing so drains him of anything that made him a relatable human being.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
No one joins the CIA just to work as an analyst. Or that's the case in the movie world anyway, with Chris Pine's rebooted Jack Ryan drawn into far more than he bargained for in "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit." And with Paramount's new (potential) franchise launching in just a few days, a couple more clips are here to entice you to buy tickets.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
With Chris Pine already at the lead of one franchise, playing Captain Kirk in the ongoing "Star Trek" films, will he have another series under his belt in role of Jack Ryan? You can bet Paramount are hoping so, as their effort to revive the classic Tom Clancy character arrives next week with "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit," and they are eager to get the word out.

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
Obviously, you've already seen our list of 10 Movies To See This Month and booked your tickets for all of them: but just in case it slipped your mind, here's some promoterial (you can have that word for free, marketing departments) for “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit” to get you in the mood. As we noted over in that article, the film is aiming to revive a character previously played by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck: Chris Pine takes the role this time, with Kenneth Branagh directing and playing the villain viz a szick Rrrrrrussian akzent (there's a certain strange joy to be taken in the way Branagh has grown out of serious Shakesperian thespianism and is enjoying his 50s directing massive action blockbusters).

Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit
Jack Ryan is back in a reboot of sorts that brings the character previously played by Harrison Ford (x2), Alec Baldwin and Ben Affleck back to his roots. As the title suggests, he'll just be getting into the game when we meet him again in "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit," but it seems he's already got some skills to the pay the bills.
