Exodus: Gods and Kings
Of all the big movies coming our way this fall, the one that looks the most potentially dicey is "Exodus: Gods And Kings," Ridley Scott's grand-scale retelling of the story of Moses. In theory, the idea of the director of "Gladiator" working with his biggest-ever budget for the first live-action take on the tale in fifty years should be an enticing one, especially with a cast including Christian Bale, Joel Edgerton, Aaron Paul, Sigourney Weaver, John Turturro, Ben Mendelsohn and Ben Kingsley.

Out Of The Furnace, Christian Bale
Will "Travis McGee" finally get made? The project has been bouncing around Hollywood for years, at one time positioned as a vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio (who is still producing), while directors like Paul Greengrass and Oliver Stone circled at various times. Now James Mangold ("The Wolverine," "Walk The Line") is attached to direct and an old friend may star.

Christian Bale, Exodus
Filmmaker Ridley Scott is 76 years old, but you wouldn’t know it from his prodigious output. He’s got 22 features under his belt, and between 2000-2014, he’ll have directed twelve feature-length projects (that’s 1.16 films a year if you wanna get nerdy about it). “Filmmaking for him must be like breathing.” Joel Edgerton told Entertainment Weekly about his “Exodus: Gods And Kings” director. “He’s got all the passion of a young filmmaker,” the lead actor Christian Bale said. “He’s not jaded.”

Exodus: Gods and Kings
Bible movies, they’re the hottest thing in Hollywood right now. Tinseltown has figured out—though many of them haven’t even come out yet—that Bible stories are public domain and therefore it's a “franchise” they can exploit.

Exodus: Gods & Kings
"I guess I didn't pay attention in Sunday School," Ridley Scott told Entertainment Weekly recently about the depth of the story he'll explore in "Exodus: Gods And Kings." "There was so much I had forgotten. It's a marvelous human story about change. There are massive questions here. You treat it with great respect."

Steve Jobs David Fincher
A Steve Jobs biopic. Sony and Scott Rudin producing, Aaron Sorkin had written the script and David Fincher in the directing chair. It’s basically a dream re-team of the key principals behind “The Social Network,” which worked out swimmingly well for everyone, right?

American Hustle Robert De Niro
"De Niro is extremely meticulous when he's really passionate about something and we had endless conversations," director David O. Russell said last fall at a press conference for "American Hustle." "He loved the fact that this man [Victor Tellegio] spoke Arabic—which happens to be one of the true things in the story. Truth is crazier than fiction, but there was a mobster who spoke Arabic... He was really into meticulously constructing this guy. He wanted to do something he'd never done before." And the result is one of the most memorable moments in the film.

American Hustle
Today is what every director, actor, studio executive, PR person, marketing guru and consultant has been building to all awards season long—the start of Oscar voting. But that doesn't mean the campaigns end. Rather, one big push is coming (or has come) and "American Hustle" is being given one last chance to shine.

Underrated Performances, 2014 Actor & Actress Nominees
The trouble with awards season, especially when it comes to actors who often attract nominations, is that there's a risk that it delegitimizes their work if it doesn't get recognized. If Meryl Streep, say, has countless nominations, than there could be a temptation to think of her performances in less awards-friendly fare as "lesser" work, whereas in fact, the opposite can be true—even in films that are of otherwise questionable quality, the actors can still give remarkable performances.
