It was just last month that Terry Gilliam said that his long developing, forever plagued "The Who Killed Don Quixote" wouldn't be next, revealing that he was starting work on new film that would come first. "Romania. Let’s just say that I’ve been seen around Bucharest, Romania," he teased. "That’s it. It used to be that Italy was the best place to make quality films without spending a lot of money. Then, after communism, it was Prague. Then Budapest. Now it’s Bucharest." Well, now we know what he's up to and it's pretty exciting.

Comic-Con '12: Quentin Tarantino Wows Hall H Faithful With Bombastic Footage From ‘Django Unchained’ & More From The Presentation

While the films of Quentin Tarantino may not exactly be comic book movies, the world he has created over his highly decorated tenure at the top of the film game is so heavily steeped in popular culture that it seems a perfect fit for the writer/director to be debuting footage from his spaghetti western, “Django Unchained,” at Comic-Con. After all, pop culture guru Tarantino is a comic fan himself, having referenced characters from the pages now and again, such as in the somewhat awkward but totally Tarantino rewrites of “Crimson Tide” in which Denzel Washington stumbles through a monologue about the Silver Surfer. But I digress.

Perhaps aware that a spaghetti western -- even if directed by Quentin Tarantino, who is a brand name director now -- centered around the subject of slavery might be a tricky sell, The Weinstein Company are getting the marketing campaign out early for the film that won't be arriving until Christmas. But that means even for all the advertising, the footage for now will remain the same until the movie is closer to completion (or until Comic-Con where Tarantino will be making an appearance).

While it may seem like a no-brainer on paper, The Weinstein Company are rolling the dice a bit on "Django Unchained," the new film by Quentin Tarantino. A spaghetti western, tackling a controversial subject that isn't exactly one that's guaranteed to light up the box office, and that will be released right at the height of the Christmas season....we guess you either go big, or go home. And the new international trailer for the film serves up another look at the movie that, if nothing else, promises to be nothing like the competition when it hits theaters.

The biggest story of the last week, by a mile, was the debut of the first trailer for Quentin Tarantino's sure-to-be-controversial Western "Django Unchained." Starring Jamie Foxx as the title character, a slave out to rescue his wife Broomhilda (Kerry Washington), with Christoph Waltz as his companion, Dr. King Schultz and Leonardo DiCaprio as one of the villains, Calvin Candie, it was one of the most anticipated films of the year before hand, but the excellent teaser clip has certainly raised expectations even further.

Looks like the rumors are true. Just over a week ago word began to surface that the first trailer for Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" would be playing in front of "Prometheus," and with the trailer now set to drop in full online tomorrow, it looks like that will be the case. But you don't have to until Wednesday or this weekend to get a glimpse of the footage, as ET has a preview of what you can expect.

Even though it's not coming out until Christmas, and is still shooting, The Weinstein Company are getting the ball rolling very early on Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained." And it's easy to see why. While the director may be a name brand at this point, his latest, a slavery-centered spaghetti western, could be his most controversial yet. However, with early footage screened at the Cannes Film Festival that delivered everything fans now expect from the director, and with rumors of a teaser trailer unspooling in front of "Prometheus," buzz is building for the film and it looks like the audiences will soon get a taste of what Tarantino is brewing.

Capping off The Weinstein Company press presentation this evening was what was arguably the longest look of the trio of films they unveiled, Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained." And for better or worse, it's pure Tarantino through and through. Longtime fans of the director are going to be thrilled, and for anyone hoping he's changed his visual approach, or swapped out his longstanding influences for something different, they might be advised to skip this one entirely, even though it will be their loss.

We already know that Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" is going to be something special. Centering on slavery and vengeance, but delivering through the conventions of a spaghetti western in a way that only Tarantino knows how, there are few films this year taking as big a risk. And if these first official images from the film indicate anything, it's that the pay off could be something truly memorable.
