As Cannes passes its halfway mark, already a number of deals and release dates have been set, with Asghar Farhadi’s “The Past” being just the latest. But away from the Croisette, a number of smaller pictures are nearing release, and a diverse slate at that: a UK cop thriller with a stellar ensemble, a coming of age drama starring Claire Danes, and a space horror with Sharlto Copley in the lead.

This was announced way back in the spring of 2011, before "Homeland" became a big hit, and thus when we saw a new movie with Claire Danes, we sorta just shrugged our shoulders and moved on. But the actress is back in a big way thanks to the hit series (which just got renewed for a third season), and undoubtedly many more eyes will now be on her indie feature "As Cool As I Am," which Radiant Films has just picked up the sales rights for.

Project Is Payoff To Franco's 'General Hospital' RoleJames Franco's had a pretty good 2010, but his 2011 is likely to be even better. The polymath will kick things off by not only co-hosting the Academy Awards with Anne Hathaway, but also with a near certain-nomination at the awards for his stunning performance in Danny Boyle's "127 Hours." April will then see him topline the fantasy comedy "Your Highness," and the summer will see him take on his first full-flung blockbuster lead in 20th Century Fox's "Rise of the Apes."
