What happens when you're about become the biggest actress on the planet? Projects start moving. Should "Prometheus" land the way many expect it will, Noomi Rapace will quickly become a (quirky) household name and Hollywood wants to make sure there is more of her on the way. Popping up and getting a taste of a multiplex sized movie in "Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows," and currently filming "Passion" with Brian DePalma another project that actress was linked to last fall is moving forward.

If 2011 was the year when big studios wizened up and shelved big expensive tent poles, then 2012 is the year that those same studios are cutting costs to resurrect a handful of the projects including “Wedding Crashers” helmer David Dobkin’s “Arthur & Lancelot.” While that project kicked back to life when actor Colin Farrell entered into talks with Warner Bros. to take the lead in the film, it looks as if things may become a little grim for the production all over again.

The box office is up in 2012, but of the ten biggest grossers of the year so far, only one, "Safe House" was sold on the back of an established A-list star, namely Denzel Washington. The rest, for the most part, featured total unknowns, or in the case of "Act of Valor," active Navy SEALs, rather than actors. This is not, it should be said, a new trend. From "Avatar" to "Star Trek," big movies have been shunning established names in the favor of new faces for quite a while. But it is indicative of a problem that Hollywood has been facing lately: a distinct lack of new leading men.

It's going to be a competitive summer for everyone, as we've detailed in the past, but few films have a tougher fight ahead of them than Sony's "Total Recall." A remake of the Arnold Schwarzenegger action sci-fi picture that's beloved by geeks everywhere, the new version has exchanged visionary helmer Paul Verhoeven for the much less popular Len Wiseman ("Underworld," "Live Free and Die Hard"), and toplines the still-unproven-as-a-box-office-draw Colin Farrell, rather than Arnie. Not to mention it's going head to head at the box office with "The Bourne Legacy," which is after an identical demographic.

Warner Bros. continues their week of putting big franchises on their production slate. A couple of days ago they took over "The Dark Tower" from Universal, yesterday they conjured up "Mandrake The Magician," and now, a project thought left for dead is kicking back to life.
