Are Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis set to recreate some movie magic with another take on American history? It certainly seems like they got on like gangbusters during the production and promotion of "Lincoln," with the movie netting yet another Oscar for the actor. While it's all very early, it seems like they are kicking around an idea that would see them back at work together.

Pedro Almodovar Says Daniel Day-Lewis Can't Do Comedy (And Neither Could Marlon Brando)

3-time Oscar-winner Daniel Day-Lewis is known for his intensely focused, meticulously researched performances that mark him as one of the few actors of his generation who can truly claim to fully transform themselves from role to role, movie to movie. There is no doubt that he is a dramatic powerhouse, whether he's earnestly arguing for the abolition of slavery in "Lincoln," threatening to slice up whoever gets in his way in "Gangs Of New York" or embodying someone stricken with cerebral palsy in "My Left Foot." His talent can't be denied, but can he tell a joke on the big screen? At least one major director doesn't think so.

It’s that time of year. For ten years now, Time Magazine unveils a brand new list of their 100 most influential people, who for better or worse, are recognized for changing the world. People are highlighted in such categories as Titans, Leaders, Artists, Pioneers, and Icons. What caught our eye this year was the listing of Lena Dunham and Daniel Day-Lewis as Icons and Jennifer Lawrence under Artists. There is no denying their ever-growing prominence in their respective fields, but 100 most influential people in the world? Is that going a bit too far?

Despite what whoever was pressing the "Jaws" theme button last night believes, the highlights of the annual Academy Awards tend not to be the montages and dance numbers, but the speeches. It's the moment where an actor or artist is rewarded by their peers, and thanks the Academy with wit, graciousness, charm, enormous egotism, or perhaps a bit of all the above.

Well, that's a wrap. The two bigger winners of the night were "Argo," which one the coveted Best Picture award and three awards total, and "Life of Pi," which took home the most statuettes of the evening including Best Director for Ang Lee (which we called in our predictions). The one relative "surprise" of the night early on (though a late groundswell started in recent weeks) was Christoph Waltz for "Django Unchained," beating out Robert De Niro and Tommy Lee Jones. But the show was a brutally longwinded snore and the musical segments didn't help. Host Seth MacFarlane had mixed results, but fared better than we expected and had a few admittedly killer jokes. All and all though, pacing wise, it was a crushingly slow and laborious show. More analysis tomorrow, this thing tired us out.

Talk about tapping a demographic. With the film already up over $170 million at home helping push the worldwide total over $220 million, it's safe to say that Steven Spielberg's "Lincoln" is a box office smash, and a critical one as well. And yet, the movie has faded from the Oscar conversation, with Ben Affleck's "Argo" racing into the frontrunner position. But that doesn't mean the campaigning ends. After a segment on "60 Minutes" last fall, Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis have returned to the show again, for yet another look at the film.

The latest issue of Vanity Fair is about to hit stands, and inside the pages of the magazine is a presumably long and exhaustingly good oral history of Quentin Tarantino's seminal '90s work, "Pulp Fiction." Online, Vanity Fair has published what one assumes is a truncated version of said oral history, but man, it's still damn good.

Joaquin Phoenix didn't exactly start off the awards season on the right foot, however, he's certainly beloved, his performance in "The Master" is titanic stuff, and he was still rewarded by his peers with an Oscar nomination for Paul Thomas Anderson's film. And while we'll leave it to the prognosticators to determine his chances against Daniel Day-Lewis in "Lincoln," Phoenix has already come out on top in one competition.
