Given Hollywood's focus more on things that go boom and sell toys, and less on dramas with human beings, it's probably not a total shock that "College Republicans" hasn't gained much traction since landing on the 2010 Black List. At one point Richard Linklater was attached to direct, with Shia LaBeouf and Paul Dano linked to lead roles at various times, without anything ever coalescing. But the project is taking another swing at getting made, this time with a pair of compelling actors taking the starring roles.

Since crossing over into the mainstream with 2006’s “Borat,” Sacha Baron Cohen has worked with the likes of Tom Hooper, Martin Scorsese and Tim Burton, a feat impressive for any actor, much less a comedic one. Variety reports Baron Cohen is in early talks to re-team with his “Sweeney Todd” co-star Johnny Depp for the slow-brewing “Alice in Wonderland” sequel, “Through the Looking Glass.”

If You’re Lucky
One movie we heard some good word about at TIFF last fall but just couldn't find room for in our screening schedule was "The F Word." The film from director Michael Dowse ("Fubar," "Goon," "Take Me Home Tonight") is a rom-com starring Daniel Radcliffe and Zoe Kazan, about a young man stuck in the dreaded friend zone with a girl he likes a whole lot more than that. Buzz was good on the movie, and it even landed on TIFF's Top 10 Canadian Films Of 2013 list. But it looks like a big change is coming to the movie before it lands in U.S. theaters.

Daniel Radcliffe Sebastian Coe
While neither director James Watkins or actor Daniel Radcliffe returned for the forthcoming sequel "The Woman In Black: Angel Of Death," it's clear the pair got on well making the horror movie hit. And now, they're going to try and conjure up some cinematic thrills in an entirely different way.

Kill your darlings
When any filmmaker decides to chronicle a largely undocumented or unknown corner of history revolving around famous cultural figures, a question that can raise its head is: what's underneath the surface that compels the director to make the story?

Dominic Cooper Rumored For Freddie Mercury Biopic, Queen Feared Sacha Baron Cohen Would Be "A Joke"

The long-gestating Freddie Mercury biopic hit a snag this past summer when its lead, Sacha Baron Cohen, dropped out over disagreements with the surviving members of Queen over the direction of the film. Cohen pushed for R-rated and serious take on the frontman while Mercury’s family and bandmates apparently pushed for a PG and more family-friendly angle. Also, it seems that they were worried no one would take Cohen seriously. “We felt Sacha probably wasn’t right in the end. We didn’t want it to be a joke. We want people to be moved,” Queen drummer Roger Taylor told Mojo. Mercury’s estate is still pushing forward with their plans for the biopic, however, and two actors are being rumored to be in the running for music icon.

TIFF: Daniel Radcliffe & Juno Temple Talk The Horror Fairytale 'Horns'
Harry Potter no more, young British star Daniel Radcliffe is having a hell of a Toronto International Film Festival, starring determinedly in three very diverse features: he’s a hopeless romantic in “The F Word” opposite Zoe Kazan, a college-aged Allen Ginsberg in “Kill Your Darlings,” and a mourning lover confronting his very literal demons in Alexandre Aja’s “Horns.” We got to sit down with Radcliffe and his comely costar Juno Temple to talk about "Horns," which is still looking for distribution.

One of the more hotly anticipated movies that will make its splashy premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (for us, at least) is Alexandre Aja's "Horns," an adaption of the silly, surreal, scary-as-hell novel by Joe Hill (aka Stephen King's son). Now a trio of new photos from the film has debuted (courtesy of Entertainment Weekly), featuring the Boy Who Lived Daniel Radcliffe rocking some pretty devilish nubs.

At the beginning of the month, a half uploaded teaser trailer for the Beat drama "Kill Your Darlings" made its way online and was summarily yanked, without anything else arriving in terms of promotional material. But the whole shebang has now broached the interwebs, unofficially it seems, and you can take a peek below (for now).

Kill your darlings
The Venice Film Festival is well underway. And while the Beat Generation drama "Kill Your Darlings" isn't in competition, it is screening at the festival before it takes a trip to Toronto and lands in theaters this fall. And if you can't wait, you can get an early peek at the movie right now.
