As I Lay Dying, James Franco
Among the many filmmakers and actors packing their bags for Cannes this year is James Franco, because nary a festival can go by with something by the multitasking polymath being in the mix. And this year, the south of France will be getting his adaptation of William Faulkner's "As I Lay Dying," which looks to be a bit more than just an art goof by Daniel Desario.

So April Fools' Day is (thankfully) nearing an end and it looks like Bryan Singer and the folks behind "This Is The End" win the day. The former fooled Variety with a joke tweet about Lady Gaga playing Dazzler in "X-Men: Days Of Future Past," while the latter dropped a joke teaser for "Pineapple Express 2" masquerading as a quick teaser for the apocalypse comedy. Well, they've decided to finish the day with a brand new red band trailer, and yeah, this looks like it'll be something of a cameo filled blast.

Today is April Fool's Day, a holiday marked by lots of unfunny and terrible jokes floating around the internet trying to gotcha people. This isn't one of them. Instead, Seth Rogen, James Franco, Danny McBride and their pals have used April 1st to drop the trailer for the highly anticipated "Pineapple Express" sequel... okay, not really...

"The End Of The World" is coming, and no, we're not talking about the Mayan nonsense that has tinfoil hat types stocking up on batteries and water. We're talking about Seth Rogen's directorial debut (he shares the chair with longtime writing collaborator Evan Goldberg, and yes, they both penned the script), the apocalypse comedy that's now called "This Is The End." And the first red band spot is here.

Last month, the plot for Larry David's upcoming improvised comedy was revealed, ending what was an unusual amount of secrecy for the creator of HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm." At the time, the project still lacked a name and only had confirmed the casting of Jon Hamm, Michael Keaton and David himself. With HBO stepping in over the summer to release the film, the project is taking shape for a fall shoot and is putting together its cast, roughly about half of Hollywood.

For all his prolific work across a number of mediums, James Franco's ability to write and direct is, for the most part, still an unknown quantity. He's done a few shorts, and two documentaries, but his three feature films so far -- the comedy "The Ape," the Sal Mineo biopic "Sal," and Hart Crane tale "The Broken Tower" -- haven't exactly become big hits or critical favorites. However, his latest endeavor might change that.

In case you missed the news last night, HBO has ordered up a fourth season of "Eastbound & Down." That's right, the show that everyone expected was over and done with this spring -- including creators Danny McBride and Jody Hill -- is now back, with eight more episodes to come. The announcement was a surprise for everyone, but according to a very candid McBride, he's just glad to have another shot at the show, which it seems he felt was slightly compromised in the third season, in terms of everything they wanted to delve into with Kenny Fucking Powers.

"You know when we set this up, it as always going to be as a three season arc and I think we just feel that we’ve been given the opportunity to complete that dream and we do have a great time doing it, so who knows what will happen after this -- if it’s something that maybe we’ll come back to one day or maybe we won't," Danny McBride told us last spring about concluding "Eastbound & Down." But it looks like HBO wants some extra innings of the baseball centered comedy that was expected to be over and finished after the third season wrapped up in April.

With "Eastbound & Down" heading into its series finale this weekend, Danny McBride will be waking up on Monday morning with the hit show over and an open calendar and canvas in front of him. But it looks like he's not wasting any time in lining up something new, and it's another project with big comic possibilities.
