Denzel Washington Magnificent Seven
After a somewhat quiet stretch between 2009’s “Brooklyn’s Finest” and last year’s “Olympus Has Fallen," it turns out Antoine Fuqua was simply preparing something of a massive return to the big screen. Suddenly the director has boxing drama “Southpaw” and “Narco Sub” in the pipeline, following his actioner “The Equalizer” that opens in the fall, but one other project—the long-gestating “Magnificent Seven” remake—seems his for the taking as well -- and it may have a familiar face and collaborator attached.

The Equalizer
You might be wondering why Denzel Washington would ever decide to take on a movie based on an '80s TV show. But when it comes to "The Equalizer," the actor only cared about one thing. "The title doesn't mean anything to me. It's the material," he told USA Today. "It's a classic story, the innocent girl and the guy coming in to save the day and kick some butt. You'll get some popcorn and escape for a couple of hours."

During a longwinded, occasionally entertaining rant about how studios can't seem to formulate new intellectual properties, Deadline's Mike Fleming, Jr. let some biggish news slip: Denzel Washington, who can be seen in this weekend's oddly satisfying shoot 'em up "2 Guns," turned down a "small role" in the next "Fast and Furious" movie (currently titled "Fast & Furious 7"), to be directed by James Wan ("The Conjuring," "Insidious: Chapter 2"). No details on who Denzel would have played or why he turned down the role, but Fleming is still hopeful that a major star can fill the void before Wan starts shooting. Considering Universal has already set a July 6th, 2014 date for "Fast & Furious 7," they'd better hurry up and find someone.

2 Guns
Did “2 Guns”… happen? It seemed there was a screening for the new action film. And it had Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg. Or is that just a memory from the overt billboards and advertisements, boasting both stars aiming guns with the title superimposed in front of them. There was some shooting, right? Why does it feel like the memory of this film is clutched in Leonardo DiCaprio’s arms as he whizzes through crumbling architecture to the braaaaaaaams of Hans Zimmer’s score? Should “2 Guns” be explained by Ellen Page frantically asking a series of questions?

2 Guns
With the movie coming to theaters in just a few days, the final push for "2 Guns" is now underway. Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington headline the action comedy, which might be enough for many to buy tickets, but in case it isn't, Universal has a bit more to show you from the upcoming film.

Few filmmakers have quite the crowded dance card that Nicolas Winding Refn boasts. Speaking to The Playlist on the eve of the North American premiere for “Only God Forgives,” Refn seems deeply pleased by having attached himself to so many projects, each one sounding more exciting than the last (particularly the mooted “Valhalla Rising” continuation). However, Refn’s next project is a detour into television, with the series “Barbarella,” which he describes, in typical Refn fashion, as “the ultimate fetish.”

Denzel Washington Shovel Ready
If you like Denzel Washington playing a stone cold killer whose heart is gradually melted by prolonged interactions with an adorable moppet, well, today might as well be Christmas. Deadline is reporting that the megawatt star has signed on to star in Warner Bros.' new sci-fi project "Shovel Ready," an adaptation of an unreleased novel by New York Times Magazine culture editor Adam Sternbergh. Just like in "Man on Fire," he'll play a murderous badass who falls under the spell of a young girl. Aww.

Okay, we didn't see this coming. At all. At only sixteen years old, Chloe Moretz is already looking to push the envelope with the roles she'll take on, featuring in the grimy indie "Hick" (which by all accounts was pretty awful) while this fall she'll reign in terror as "Carrie." But taking the part of a young prostitute? Like we said, didn't see this one coming...
