Director/writer Todd Phillips' filmmaking career has been fairly inconsistent so far, but the peaks and positive results have always been hilariously effective. "Road Trip" was unexpectedly funny and "Old School," a comedy touchstone of sorts, practically invented the fratty, bromantic, arrested development comedy of man children that’s become its own cottage industry genre (Example: while "Wedding Crashers" was not written by Phillips, that comedy classic owes much of its form to his college-set comedy). Then came the uneven "Starsky & Hutch" and the compromised "School For Scoundrels," which dulled Phillips' dirty politically-incorrect comedy edge.

While plot details (such as they are for this franchise) have been kept secret, director Todd Phillips recently teased the driving force behind "The Hangover Part III" and how it ties into the first movie. "It's very much all one big story of [how that moment when] Alan buys drugs from Black Doug in the first movie basically fucked their lives up for six years," he told THR. But it would appear that the Dougs have once again been potentially mixed up.

'Vacation' Reboot Put On Hold As Battle Erupts Over Rating

Considering the sheer number of sequels, remakes, and reboots Hollywood has made over the years, a reboot of the “Vacation” movies seems like the biggest no-brainer. No one is going to forget the original films, and yet the concept is so broad that it can easily be remade to fit our modern times. And while he has yet to really prove that he can carry a film on his own, the casting of Ed Helms as Clark Griswold makes a lot of sense. Add Christina Applegate as Clark’s wife, Ellen, and you got yourself a new “Vacation” series. This should be a slam dunk, right? Well…

Hangover III
Phil, Alan and Stu. We partied with them in Las Vegas, got wasted with them in Thailand, and now it's all coming back home with "The Hangover Part III," a movie in which they want to burn the gambling mecca where they started their journey to the ground. The first trailer set up the pins -- will this one knock 'em down?

" 'The Hangover Part III' is Alan's story," director Todd Phillips said late last year about the plot of the third installment of the 'Hangover' franchise. "He's going through a crisis after the death of his father, [and] the Wolf Pack is all he has." And after surviving Las Vegas and Thailand together, who better to have your back? Well the new trailer for the "fitting end to this three-part opera of mayhem and bad decisions" has arrived to strap in.

So, "The Hangover Part III" is coming in about three months....where's the trailer? Or the poster? Or even one of those teaser trailers with no actual footage? Given the movie only started shooting last September, we figure Todd Phillips and co. are racing to the finish line, and the studio must be confident that audiences would probably walk up and buy tickets to this sight unseen. But until we get some kind of glimpse at the movie, here are a couple more stills.

Ed Helms, you duplicitious bastard! “I have no idea where that bubbled up,” Helms told us this spring about rumors he was going to be in New Line's reboot/spinoff/sequel to the "Vacation" franchise. “I don’t know where that came from. It’s nothing I know of.” So either the studios were listening to rumors and ran with them, he was on their wishlist, or the actor was being coy, but either way, it turns out he's going be in it anyway.

Two actors: one anchoring a quickly fading hit sitcom, and another rising through the comedic ranks. Both talented, and both headed to a very promising upcoming comedy.
