Noah, trailer
"In the Bible the story is only a couple of pages, and the perception we have of it in the West is more as a children’s toy—an old man with a long beard and animals two by two on the boat. And there’s so much more to the story than that…there’s a lot of clues there about what the story means. So it was about trying to create a world where the story of Noah could be truthful and could take place, and make it something that could connect to a modern audience," director Darren Aronofsky told us last year, just two weeks after he had wrapped filming. With the time since spent working on the extensive special effects and whatever issues might be happening behind-the-scenes, reportedly battling the studio over final cut (it's still test screening), it looks like everyone involved is satisfied that all will be resolved as the first trailer has washed ashore.

Emma Watson While We're Young
While we're still awaiting our Slut & The Falcon spinoff, we're just glad that Emma Watson and director Stephen Chbosky aren't waiting too long to work together and delivering last year's hugely enjoyable and somewhat underrated "Perks Of Being A Wallflower." It was the rare teen movie that got those years right, with lots of humor and heart as well, and now the pair are going to try something both youthful and a bit different.

Well, it looks like "The Secret Service," the next Matthew Vaughn-directed adaptation of a Mark Millar comic book, is almost fully staffed with secret agents. According to a Variety report, newcomer Taron Egerton has landed the lead role of a young street tough who is turned into a super spy, in a story Millar has described as "My Fair Lady" meets James Bond. Meanwhile, the hunt for a female lead is still on, with Bella Heathcote and Emma Watson looking like frontrunners.

A flood is coming, but not to worry, because Darren Aronofsky is building the boat, cinematically speaking. Next spring, the director brings his snake-filled, crazy demon angel version of "Noah" to the big screen, and now a few more images have arrived to hold us over, as we buy supplies for the trip.

The Bling Ring
American cinema seems preoccupied with the emptiness of excess, at least in the first half of 2013. Baz Luhrmann luxuriates in the meaningless wealth of "The Great Gatsby," while Harmony Korine put his own twisted spin on the dark soul of the American dream in "Spring Breakers." And now comes Sofia Coppola's "The Bling Ring," another look at the at-any-cost pursuit of celebrity and the worship of brand names, but it doesn't bring anything new to a conversation that seems to have run out of things to say.

From the moment the "Harry Potter" series finished, Emma Watson has (mostly) steered clear of major tentpoles, opting instead to flex her muscles in smaller-scale films. While "My Week With Marilyn" didn't give her much to do except get walked all over, she shone in "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower" and is pitch perfectly airheaded in "The Bling Ring." And right now in theaters, she gets what is arguably one of the best moments/sequences in "This Is The End." And oh yeah, she's getting all Biblical with Darren Aronofsky's "Noah" next spring. But now, she's ready for another franchise.

This Is The End, Hill, Rihanna
The end is nigh. To think it all started in 2007 as "Jay And Seth Versus The Apocalypse" a short YouTube clip starring Seth Rogen and Jay Baruchel as themselves if they were degenerate roommates living in squalor during the apocalypse. This of course evolved into what's now known as "This Is The End," an ensemble apocalypse comedy that's expanded to also include friends-playing-themselves like James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson.

Okay, so as we noted in our review from the Cannes Film Festival, Sofia Coppola's "The Bling Ring" doesn't exactly break down the door of insight into the emptiness and excess of celebrity culture and the pursuit of it. That said, it does have some fun along the way. And most notably, it's Paris Hilton's house (and yes, it's actually Paris Hilton's house in the movie) that provides the thieving gang of teens the most enjoyment on their crime spree. In fact, they go back to it more than once...
