Comet
It’s not always easy to pull off high concept romantic dramas, or to futz with the format of what could be a straightforward boy-meets-girl breakup/makeup story, but in staying grounded, and real, “Comet,” directed by Sam Esmail and starring Justin Long and Emmy Rossum, manages to do just that. Jumping in between six different, specific time periods in the relationship of Dell (Long) and Kimberly (Rossum), “Comet” weaves the story of a relationship that anyone who’s ever asked “what if?” can relate to.

Run
Just as that whole, weird Jay Z/Solange elevator dust up is clearing out of the tabloid food chain, it looks like the rapper and his wife Beyoncé have found a whole new way to weird us out. With the pair embarking shortly on a summer tour, they've dropped the trailer for the short film "Run" and we can't make heads or tails of this thing.

Fantastic Four Emmy Rossum
There has been a lot of chatter around Fox's reboot of "Fantastic Four" but little in the way of actual concrete information, but that hasn't stopped things from getting ridiculous. We're now at a moment when certain websites reach out to director Josh Trank to essentially confirm his denials about supposedly leaked plot points. It would seem that a certain core audience totally doesn't want spoilers but kind of wants them too. Anyway, we digress... The point is that testing is underway for the movie that is due in theaters next year, with another name surfacing and yet another rumor about what changes may happen to the canon.

Review: 'Beautiful Creatures' A Stylish Southern Gothic Riff On 'Twilight' That Gets Tangled In Its Own Mythology

Just as the "Harry Potter" franchise begat a number of costly imitators that failed to catch on (just think: "Lemony Snicket's Series of Unfortunate Events," "The Spiderwick Chronicles," "Cirque du Freak"), so too will the unstoppable "Twilight" franchise breed countless would-be successors, each with some kind of otherworldly overtones and always with star-crossed lovers that defy the odds to be together (hello, "I Am Number Four"). Earlier this month we had zombies-in-love lark "Warm Bodies" and now we get "Beautiful Creatures," which transplants the Pacific Northwest setting of "Twilight" for the earthy Deep South and swaps that series' emphasis on vampires and werewolves for some much-needed attention to witches. Also, it's the kind of movie that heavily features not only Civil War flashbacks but also modern day kids participating in Civil War battlefield recreations. I do declare!

With its Feb. 13th release date impending, two clips from Warner Bros. hopeful new YA franchise film “Beautiful Creatures” have been released. For those who haven’t been keeping up, the fantasy romance is adapted from the first in a series of books by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, and centers on two teens in the deep south who are drawn together by a strange connection and supernatural secrets.

It looks like Emmy Rossum is back on the rise once again. The actress was cast with something of a bit of hoopla in Joel Schumacher's "The Phantom Of The Opera," the big-screen take on the famed musical that wasn't quite the hot ticket or awards contender many thought it would be. She since landed a role on the Showtime series "Shameless," and next spring, has a juicy part as the sexy villainess of sorts in Warner Bros.' YA movie hopeful "Beautiful Creatures." And now, she's going to take care of an Oscar winner.

Having dabbled in films both large and small, moving between television and film, Emmy Rossum has earned her place as an intriguing young actress who greatly enhances the material around her. The next logical step would be for her to finally play the villain, and in “Beautiful Creatures” she plays Ridley, cousin to young potential sorceress Lena Ducane, an over-the-top role that allowed Rossum to let her freak flag fly.

We may not know much about "Beautiful Creatures" mostly because we're probably too old for the Young Adult demo the book series and movie are aiming for, but from what we've seen so far in both pictures and the first trailer, Emmy Rossum is looking to be one to watch. And another new image from the movie backs up that notion (and it seems the Warner Bros. marketing department agrees).

An outsider with strange powers, a human who understands and forces beyond their control....no, we're not talking about "Twilight." Instead, it's "Beautiful Creatures," Warner Bros. stab at the YA pie that Summit and Lionsgate have conquered heartily with the vampire series and "The Hunger Games" respectively. Now it's time for the major studio play -- do they have what it takes?

So, will Warner Bros. strike "Twilight" or "The Hunger Games" sized gold with "Beautiful Creatures," another young adult novel adaptation? Well, they might if they actually started marketing the thing, which comes out in about five months. But until a trailer drops, we'll have to do with some stills from the flick instead, which certainly don't hid the fantasy elements that are a big part of this story.
