Despite a brief flirtation with major stardom, Ethan Hawke has stayed relatively true to the independent scene with his relationship with fellow Texan Richard Linklater seemingly personifying this notion. The two have teamed up for no less than six films including "Waking Life," "Tape," "The Newton Boys," "Fast Food Nation" and, of course, "Before Sunrise" and its sequel "Before Sunset." While Hawke and Linklater also have their long-term project "Boyhood" in the works as well (more on that later), it looks like the two are at it again plotting a reunion with Julie Delpy for a third installement of the uber-popular 'Before...' series.

Whether or not you were a fan of the supernatural thriller “Insidious” or the “Paranormal Activity” series, there’s no doubt that the films have been turning a pretty hefty profit, and there's been a pretty positive response from audiences. And it doesn’t look like it’s going to slow down soon for those films’ producer, Jason Blum. As he preps his next untitled horror film, he also has Rob Zombie’s “Lords of Salem” starting production soon, along with Barry Levinson’s intriguing eco-thriller “The Bay” waiting to scare our pants off or disappoint us horrifically.

Geez. It's one thing to show up in a cameo role in a film, say a few lines, wink at the audience and then leave. It's another to show up and give a speech lengthy enough to be a State Of The Union.

Not only are we anticipating the big buys out of Sundance for the independent film world, but there’s also been a lot of buzz surrounding the television production companies and the high-profile pilots being picked up for fall 2011. Anticipated pilots already being made include a remake of “Charlie’s Angels” for ABC, a new Sarah Michelle Gellar vehicle for CBS, a grown-up “Harry Potter” show for NBC and J.J. Abrams’ pilot about Alcatraz for FOX. The latest news from FOX also indicates that they’ve greenlit yet another pilot, this time from director and executive producer Antoine Fuqua, starring Ethan Hawke and titled “Exit Strategy.” The two last worked together on “Brooklyn’s Finest,” but Fuqua also directed Hawke to an Oscar nomination for “Training Day” (and Denzel Washington to a win for the same film).
