American Pastoral Ewan McGregor
After spending some time in the blockbuster arena with the 2010 Angelina Jolie-starring espionage flick “Salt,” and this summer’s YA adaptation “The Giver,” Australian director Phillip Noyce will finally be helming a film with no action set pieces again. Per Coming Soon, Noyce will tackle the long-gestating adaptation of Phillip Roth’s critically acclaimed novel “American Pastoral” and he’s cast Ewan McGregor as the lead.

Don Cheadle Miles Davis
To say that Don Cheadle has been passionate about making a Miles Davis biopic would be an understatement. For years upon years, the actor has been developing "Miles Ahead" (formerly known as "Kill The Trumpet Player") but been unable to get it off the ground. Musical biopics in general are tricky to get made (with the rights involved sometimes messy and complicated) and as we've seen lately, the studio climate hasn't exactly been the most welcoming to non-tentpole projects. So Cheadle has turned to crowd-funding to get this over the hump and in front of cameras, and an Indiegogo campaign has now been launched.

Tom Hiddleston Ben Wheatley HIgh Rise
Prolific as he is, Ben Wheatley's films to date generally haven't featured much in the way of star power, but it was only a matter of time until bigger names started circling his work. And indeed, his next effort will find Loki himself coming along for the ride.

August: Osage County
It's undeniable that, at least on paper, "August: Osage County" looks like a can't-miss proposition. Pairing Tracey Letts' Pulitizer Prize and Tony Award-winning play with an outstanding ensemble cast ranging from awards-nominated veterans to rising young stars—Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor, Chris Cooper, Abigail Breslin, Benedict Cumberbatch, Juliette Lewis, Margo Martindale, Dermot Mulroney, Julianne Nicholson, Sam Shepard, Misty Upham—it's hard to fathom the material not working. And while the choice of helmer John Wells ("The Company Men") might not seem like the most inspired decision, all he theoretically has to do is put the camera on a tripod and let the actors do their thing. And he does. And yet, 'Osage County' still turns out be an exhausting, screechy drama, in which a lot of very good actors work very hard, and yet produce so little as a result.

Samuel L. Jackson Says Mark Hamill & Ewan McGregor Haven't Been Contacted By J.J. Abrams For 'Star Wars 7'

Before we get into this it's probably worth reminding everyone that when it comes to "Star Wars," at this point, nobody really knows anything except J.J. Abrams, Lawrence Kasdan, George Lucas and probably Michael Arndt, who is likely sworn to secrecy about whatever work he did on "Star Wars: Episode 7" before being replaced. That being said, it seems Samuel L. Jackson is a pretty chatty fellow and has friends in the right places, so his contributions to the forever spinning rumor mill are worth paying some attention to.

It feels like almost as long as we've had this site going, we've been following the slow-moving development of Don Cheadle's dream directorial project, a Miles Davis biopic. Cheadle has been patiently shepherding the movie for years, getting financing together along with the involvement of Miles Davis Quintet member Herbie Hancock to score the movie. And last year, the slow roll on the project picked up slight speed when Antoine Fuqua's name was tossed around to take over helming duties. But the latest update finds Cheadle back behind the camera, with a couple of actors finally circling.

Our Kind Of Traitor Susanna White
You might remember that last year, and early this year, there were all kinds of rumblings and activity around the John Le Carré adaptation of "Our Kind Of Traitor." Justin Kurzel, the Aussie director behind the unnerving "Snowtown," had signed to direct, with Ewan McGregor attached to star, while names like Jessica Chastain, Mads Mikkelsen and Ralph Fiennes were all tossed around as potential cast members, with a 2014 shoot in mind. Well, that start date still seems to be in mind, but it looks like there's been a switch behind the camera.

August Osage County
While we weren't too keen on John Wells' adaptation of Tracey Letts' "August: Osage County" (you can read our review here), that doesn't mean that the film isn't still a heavy Oscar contender, especially with the star wattage of the cast (Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Benedict Cumberbatch, Ewan McGregor, the list goes on) and the raw schmoozing power of its producer, Harvey Weinstein. One thing that seems to be very much in the air, though, is the nature of the ending, which was changed at the last minute due to test audience reactions and Weinstein's insistence, but still could go back before the movie's theatrical opening in December. Read on for details of the saga; spoiler warning for those who care about the downbeat conclusion to a Pulitzer Prize-winning play that ran on Broadway for a hundred years.

So, is "Star Wars: Episode 7" going to be a spook-tacular sequel the likes of which the franchise has never seen? Or are the filmmakers just finding any old excuse to include as many old characters as possible in the next movie? Well, we'll have to wait until Disney decides to announce something (and even then, they'll be playing any details close to chest for a while yet) and thus, the rumor mill is where news will be discussed and debated. And another has landed today.
