As of Monday, Oscar ballots have been sent out, online voting (for the first time ever) is underway, and the endgame of the 2012 awards season approaches. And thanks to the cottage industry of awards predictions and precursors, the narrative is already in place. If you've been talked up as an Oscar contender for the last several months, if you've already been anointed by critics groups or the Golden Globes, then you're seriously in the race. If not, then you should probably make other plans for that Sunday in February.

Teenagers have generally not been well served by the movies. Folks like Cameron Crowe, John Hughes and Judd Apatow aside, adolescent life is usually positioned around the goals of having sex, partying and getting into outlandish hijinks with little-to-no actual insight into how teenagers think or feel. In fact, it has been a long time since we've really had a movie that got it right, but delivering beyond expectations, "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower" is about as authentic as it gets, bringing a fresh, funny and moving look at the ups and downs of friendship and family in high school.

For anyone who has been an outcast, an exile or stuck on the outside, particularly through those always awkward and tumultuous high school years, "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" might be the movie for you. And for everyone else, it's the leading trio of Logan Lerman, Ezra Miller and Emma Watson that provides hope that this will be an above-average romp through a familiar coming-of-age tale.

Every good teen movie needs a soundtrack of great tunes to go with it. For the upcoming "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower," it looks like the filmmakers have to put together one helluva mixtape that will make those who came of age in the '80s and '90s swoon, and perhaps turn some younger music fans on to some decent artists.

As students head into summer and free of worrying about homework, teachers, tests and whatever else is on their mind, next fall, a whole new batch of kids will be entering high school for the first time. It can be a terrifying, alienating experience, making the already rough years of adolescence even more difficult, but at least at the cinema, there will be a movie that understands exactly what they're going through.

If you're looking to launch a trailer for a movie about awkward and difficult adolescence, you'll find a pretty captive audience if you debut it during the MTV Movie Awards. And that's just the game plan Summit Entertainment has taken with "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," the big-screen adaptation of the beloved book.

In only a few short years, 19-year-old Ezra Miller has become something of a poster child for American independent film. The young actor has had his flirtations with the mainstream -- he appeared on "Californication" and on "Royal Pains," and was courted by Warner Bros for "Akira" before the project fell apart. But for the most part, since his breakthrough in Antonio Campos' "Afterschool," he's been leaning on the independent side of the fence, with projects including "City Island," "We Need To Talk About Kevin" and the upcoming duo of "The Perks Of Being A Wallflower" and "Madame Bovary." And he looks to continue in that vein, announcing that he's in discussions with one of international cinema's most uncompromising filmmakers for a picture with fascinating subject matter.

After breaking out with his acting debut in "After School," Ezra Miller reaffirmed his talent to the film world last year with Lynne Ramsey's "We Need To Talk About Kevin" where he went toe-to-toe with Tilda Swinton. While he was briefly linked to the failed blockbuster "Akira" project, Miller continues to make interesting choices, now lining up a starring role in an adaptation of Gustave Flaubert's "Madame Bovary" opposite Mia Wasikowska, with Paul Giamatti also confirmed.
