For smaller independent producers, the problem with your long-atttached star suddenly generating new heat is that they're flooded with new offers; bigger films, more tempting films. As such, it can be hard to keep their interest -- Carey Mulligan, for instance, dropped out of British indie "This Beautiful Fantastic" in favor of "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" after "An Education" blew up. That same issue now faces Iain Softley and his psychodrama "Trap for Cinderella."

Every year, the Sundance Film Festival serves not only as a showcase of the best of independent cinema from around the world, but as a strong indicator of some of the rising talent likely to make waves in future years. As much as the festival showcases young writers and directors, it's for its instant creation of movie stars that it's perhaps become best known in recent years.

We've been fans of rising star Felicity Jones ever since seeing her on stage in Polly Stenham's "That Face" a few years back, and she's only gone from strength to strength since -- she made our list of 2010 Breakthrough Performances for being the sole high point of Ricky Gervais' "Cemetery Junction." 2011 looks like it could be her year, with sought-after roles in "Trap for Cinderella," "This Beautiful Fantastic," "Hysteria" and the highly promising Sundance entry "Like Crazy," as well as being on the shortlist for the lead in the tentpole "Snow White and the Huntsman."

Newcomers Bella Heathcote and Alicia Vikander Also Linked To Role It's been a few months since there was any news on the duelling 'Snow White' projects set up at Universal and Relativity -- the former has newcomer Rupert Sanders attached to direct, the latter visual stylist Tarsem, and while both have had names rumored to be involved, no solid word has come out for some time. But suddenly, the floodgates have opened, with news coming in last night that Relativity want Julia Roberts to play the evil queen in their project, "The Brothers Grimm: Snow White," while, as rumored, Charlize Theron is on the verge of signing on for the equivalent role in Universal's "Snow White and the Huntsman."

Mackenzie Crook and Elizabeth McGovern Also On Board A couple of years back, Focus Features proved that, if you found a mostly forgotten comic novel from the early 20th century, cast it right, and displayed a light enough touch with it, you could end up with a modest sleeper hit like "Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day." There hasn't exactly been a deluge of copycats so far, but filming's just kicked off on a new British film that hopes to repeat the formula.
