It looks like Garrett Hedlund is becoming the next Coen Brothers player. Sort of. The actor of course features in their funny, lovely and melancholy "Inside Llewyn Davis," and in case you forgot, the sibling duo have also taken their pen to Angelina Jolie's next directorial effort "Unbroken." Do you see where this is going?

To an actor, a franchise is an attractive thing: it could mean years (maybe even decades) of solid, dependable work, with each subsequent installment usually incentivized to some degree and with the sense of community and family growing with each outing (many of the "Harry Potter" actors, both young and old, equated the experience to going back to school). In the mad scramble for big studio parts, a franchise is a sturdily proven gig. Which makes actors who pass on potential franchises somewhat baffling (remember when Josh Hartnett was repeatedly courted for Superman?)... Yet pass they do. While Charlie Hunnam and Dakota Johnson ended up scoring the pivotal leads in "Fifty Shades of Grey," a number of Hollywood's elite passed on the project. Franchise schmanchise.

So, in case you thought you missed "On The Road" or forgot about it entirely, the movie is actually still coming and/or getting released again. Or something. Basically, Walter Salles' film was supposed to open in December -- Kristen Stewart even did a big press sweep to promote it at the time -- and then at the last second it was yanked or they decided to hold on expanding it until the spring. So here we are again, and now some awkward promotion is here to remind you that this is now an option at your local theater. (Again).

Jack Kerouac's "On the Road" has been heralded for decades: an important novel, a cultural signifier, a sociological landmark, a cracking good read. It's also been considered "unfilmable" -- but now Walter Salles ("The Motorcycle Diaries," "Dark Water") brings the novel to the screen, and "The Motorcycle Diaries" turns out to be a pretty good template for understanding how Salles has shot his adaptation. "On the Road," like 'Diaries,' is scenic and episodic, full of youth's passion but with a shade of the future yet to come dimming the brightness of its vision, as a charismatic young man travels with another young man, saying little but watching everything along the way.

Um, obviously? Listen, unless its the James Bond franchise (and even that has the actors stay on for multiple pictures), major studio franchises aren't in the habit of switching up the talent involved in lead roles. They've already spent millions of dollars to build and brand the thing around this person, so doing that all over again makes little financial sense (and who cares about narrative sense, it's C.R.E.A.M. up in here). So this bit of news seems well, not particularly newsy, so forgive us.

Marvel sure does like their British and Aussie actors. With "Guardians Of The Galaxy" now less than two years from release, the studio is starting to get the cast in place for what is easily the most ambitious project on their slate (it has an alien tree creature and a pistol-wielding, talking raccoon, guys), and a ridiculously long laundry list of actors have been revealed as possibilities to star.

Did you know that Walter Salles and screenwriter Jose Rivera have three more unproduced screenplays? Or that Rivera isn't exactly thrilled that some of the lines in "On The Road" were adlibbed? Or that Salles was contractually obligated to bring in an edit of two hours? In case you missed it, those are some of the fascinating highlights from Rivera's presentation of the movie at BAM over the weekend and you can read our full recap right here. And after you've done that, take a look at the below...
