Cannes is one of the biggest markets, if not the biggest, for acquisitions in the film calendar, with hundreds of deals made, ranging from pre-sales for star-laden properties to distribution rights to terrible B-movies. This year, as with the unusually busy Sundance, has already been packed with deals, happily suggesting something of a renaissance in the independent film world. On top of the news that landed over the weekend that Rian Johnson's "Looper" heads up a pack of high-profile buys also including "Playing the Field," "Arabian Nights" and "The Iron Lady," another of our most anticipated films of the moment looks to have landed an American distributor.

As you might recall, the plot for "Inception" leaked almost a whole year before it hit theaters. And while most sites keep that on the down low, as much for their own benefit of not spoiling the movie for themselves as anything else, Christopher Nolan is doing his best this time around to make sure that nonsense doesn't happen again.

Neil Marshall No Longer Attached To DirectDoes "The Professionals" sound familiar? It might. Last spring, the project first cropped up with Neil Marshall set to direct but since then, word on the project has been quiet. But today, there is fresh life and some big, big names being tossed around as potential leads.

Gary Oldman has been doing the press rounds for "Red Riding Hood" and naturally, he's been grilled about "The Dark Knight Rises," but the veteran actor has been playing it cool and not spilling too many details on Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated and secretive sequel. What we do know is that Tom Hardy will be playing Bane and Anne Hathaway will be taking on Catwoman, though current rumors suggest she will be an ally instead of a foe. And now Oldman has hinted that another villain in the movie will be ripped from the classic pages of the comics.

Catherine Hardwicke, for better or worse, has largely defined what we have experienced, cinematically, for the past couple of years. Her influence might get lost in the shuffle, since every subsequent film has been helmed by a different director, but with the look and feel of the first "Twilight"' movie, she set the stage for a whole bunch of copycats and wannabes, which makes it all the more startling that she's returning to remarkably similar (hallowed) ground, with a revisionist take on "Red Riding Hood."

While we may weep for what could have been of John Hillcoat's original incarnation of "The Wettest County" that fell apart last year and featured Michael Shannon, Ryan Gosling, Paul Dano, Amy Adams and Scarlett Johansson, the cast that has come together for the revamped film is equally first rate.

Everybody Was Kung Fu Fighting... AgainGeeks flipping for any kind of morsel of news were all jazzed up this weekend when the synopsis and new logo (wow!) for "Kung Fu Panda 2: Kaboom Of Doom" appeared online on the film's official site. Now something a little more concrete, though barely, has arrived in the film's teaser trailer, which like most teaser trailers doesn't show a lot. All of the original characters (and their celebrity voices) will be reprising their respective roles; Jack Black (Po), Angelina Jolie (Tigress), Jackie Chan (Monkey), Seth Rogen (Mantis), Lucy Liu (Viper), David Cross (Crane) and Dustin Hoffman (Master Shifu). New additions include Gary Oldman as the new villain, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Michelle Yeoh and Victor Garber.
