It doesn’t get much more Romeo and Juliet than “Deep Powder,” a drug melodrama based on true events but otherwise inspired by a love driven by classic class conflict. The handsome, broke townie in this instance is “Evil Dead” star (deal with it) Shiloh Fernandez as Danny, a puppy dog-cute snow-lift operator. He’s got eyes for kewpie-doll rich girl Natasha (Haley Bennett), who informs her that she accidentally dropped her wallet on the lift, but that she had no pressing need for him to give it back. The shock is that the wallet has four hundred dollars that she presumably won’t miss, which is even more incredible considering this was the early '80s, and inflation translates that to roughly $6,056.55. Roughly. Check the math.

The Tribeca Film Festival is rolling out more first-looks. First off, is director Steph Green’s latest endeavor, entitled "Run and Jump." The film marks Green’s return to Tribeca after winning in the Best Short Narrative category in 2008 for her film "New Boy." "Run and Jump" stars "Saturday Night Live" alumnus Will Forte in a rare dramatic turn (perhaps a preview of things to come in Alexander Payne's "Nebraska"), Ruth McCabe, and Edward MacLiam. It follows an Irish wife and mother who find herself having to band her family together after her husband suffers a stroke.

With the exception of the FX comedy “Wilfred,” Elijah Wood has kept a low-profile since the “Lord Of The Rings” trilogy ended, sticking to indies and genre fare, and he continues in that latter vein, joining the horror movie “Cooties.” Written by “Glee” co-creator Ian Brennan and “Insidious” scribe Leigh Whannell, the film stars Wood as “an unlikely hero [who] must lead a motley band of teachers in the fight of their lives against” elementary school students whom are transformed “into a feral swarm of mindless savages” after a mysterious virus hits. Commercial and music video director Ace Norton will be making his feature length directorial debut.

The unnecessary-but-it's-happening-anyway remake of "Carrie" over at MGM continues to move forward. At the beginning of the year, a random, but kind of inspired decision was made to have Kimberly Peirce sit in the director's chair, and now it seems a gaggle of young Hollywood talent is circling the title role.

Already cast in Terrence Malick's "Lawless" opposite lauded stars Christian Bale, Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara, the trajectory of Haley Bennett's career is certainly going upward. Her career so far has only seen her star in smaller fare such as Joe Dante's "The Hole" and Gregg Araki's "Kaboom" but her casting in Malick's project may have set something off, with the actress now booking two indie roles for 2012.

The Austin City Limits Music Festival this weekend was the scene for a rare photograph of renowned recluse Terrence Malick, who was spotted with Christian Bale and a camera crew by a handful of tech-savvy attendees who duly tweeted details and photos of their appearance. The duo are, of course, slated to reunite for a mysterious project that also has relative unknown Haley Bennett on board but we weren't expecting many updates on its development, at least until Bale completed production on Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises."
