For all of the considerable questions raised in “Ender's Game," director Gavin Hood's adaptation of Orson Scott Card's sci-fi novel, they ultimately all revolve around process. The film has numerous steps toward intergalactic war pitting Earth against an alien race and is most engaged when exploring the moral, strategic, and psychological knots at each juncture, only tied to the military teens trained to lead the effort. Those three aspects are troublesome, however: they're hard to depict cinematically, quibbles which have made Card's internally-focused work so meddlesome to adapt. But more importantly, if made the central force of the unfolding drama, they require articulation deeper than what Hood's ambitious but unsatisfying fable provides.

In “Ender’s Game,” Asa Butterfield plays Ender, a bright young boy who’s been handpicked by Colonel Graff (played by Harrison Ford) to save the entire world and human race. No pressure. Colonel Graff is dead set on the boy, much to the hesitation of his colleagues, Mazer (Ben Kingsley) and Major Gwen Anderson (Viola Davis), both of whom believe that the boy is not ready. Are they right or can Ender step up and save the world? You will have to wait and find out a few weeks from now… unless you’ve read the book. If you’ve read the book, there probably won’t be any surprises here. But hey, Harrison Ford is in it! Plus, the kid from “Hugo”! And Ben Kingsley has a giant tattoo on his face! If that still does not pique your interest, perhaps these seven different clips from the film will help.

Star Wars Harrison Ford
For an actor over 70, Harrison Ford sure has his choice of projects that will keep generating income for his bank account, long after he's hung up his acting cap. It was just yesterday he was talking about potentially reprising his role as Deckard for "Blade Runner 2," but the project he's long been rumored for that seems more likely to happen is "Star Wars: Episode 7." However, it would appear the ever crochety thesp is still playing it coy about returning as Han Solo.

As long as there has been talk about the developing "Blade Runner" sequel, Harrison Ford's name has been in the mix, even though it doesn't make much sense narratively. "I don't think it'll be Harrison [starring]. But I've got to have him in it somewhere. That'd be amusing," Ridley Scott said last year, and it seems he's not joking.

While "Gravity" is racing into theaters today promising no shortage of sci-fi thrills, genre fans need not worry that it will be their only serving this fall. Next month, "Ender's Game" arrives with another sort of spectacle, though we're pretty sure you won't get a heart attack watching it.

Tom Clancy Movies, From Worst To Best
Tom Clancy, who had written over a dozen best-selling spy novels (and co-written more than a dozen additional novels) and overseen a vast, hugely profitable videogame empire, has died today at the age of 66. For an author who was prolific, and whose works were so inherently cinematic, usually involving large-scale tactical military strikes, a shockingly small amount of his material was actually developed for the screen. This December (unless it gets pushed) sees the release of Paramount's "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit," in which Chris Pine takes over the role of CIA analyst Jack Ryan, a character previously inhabited by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck.

We don’t envy makers of techno thrillers. Go too tech-savvy and you lose most people who don’t know anything about technology except that the best way to fix their gadgets is to turn them off and then back on again (guilty). Go too simplistic and there’s no real hook to your story beyond the pretty people and a heart-pounding score. Either extreme also carries the pitfall of being laughed at in a decade or even just a few years. Remember “The Net”? All that said, the bland, boring “Paranoia” does little to distinguish itself and isn’t good (or even enjoyably bad enough) to be passable even as Saturday afternoon cable fodder. And we say this as people who will sit through “Deep Blue Sea” every time it's on.

At 71 years old Harrison Ford clearly isn't getting too old for this shit. Hell, we just learned he's game for getting out the whip and hat again to quip his way through "Indiana Jones 5," should it ever happen, and now he's ready to go down Nostalgia Lane some more, along with a host of other aging action icons.

The threat/promise of "Indiana Jones 5" still looms overhead, and at the very least, conversations have been happening in some capacity or another. Back in 2011, Steven Spielberg revealed that there was already some discussion as to what the MacGuffin might be, a few months later it seemed that plans for continuing the franchise were kiboshed due to George Lucas' retirement. But as we well know from "Star Wars," even if he's kicking up his feet on beach somewhere, brands mean money and studios will always find a way to keep them alive, but should it even been attempted with Harrison Ford now in his early '70s? Well, according to the actor, the answer is: yes.

Ender's Game
"The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" won't be the only film this fall boasting an array of wacky names. The sci-fi blockbuster "Ender's Game" will be bringing folks named Ender, Mazer, Hyrum and Bonzo to tell Orson Scott Card's futuristic tale of kid killers in space (or something) and as yesterday's preview of the final trailer suggested, it's going big or going home.
