How could a movie based around a cult TV show that no one really remembers all that fondly be turned into a summer blockbuster hit? Well, for one you pair up Tim Burton and Johnny Depp, and then you (finally) release a trailer that is not only pretty rock solid, but seems to finds the top talents comfortably in their wheelhouse. Is it still a bit too quirky and strange? You might think so, but even the competition knows better, and it was earlier this week Paramount decided to get out of the way, moving "The Dictator" back five days from May 11th, having it open the following Wednesday on May 16th, effectively ending what would've been one of the summer's biggest showdowns at the box office. So with all that preamble out of the way, let's get to the movie, shall we?

This writer is going to use this moment to reveal something he's long kept a secret from many people: I'm a Rufus Wainwright fan. That's right, this cantankerous, snarky writer can't help but get caught up in the musician's larger-than-life pop songs and is probably the only person around these parts looking forward to his new album Out Of The Game. And Montreal's proud son has snagged a pretty great actress to star is the first video off the album.

So, what does Ridley Scott have in store for us with his 3D sorta "Alien"-related "Prometheus"? Aside from the teaser trailer and pep talk by Guy Pearce, the mysteries are being kept close to the chest for the film. And this latest viral image, uncovered on the Weyland Industries viral site is, uh, interesting. It looks more like concept art than an actual still, but if you click that link and look at the super high res version, way way in the back is a character who we figure is either Michael Fassbender or Noomi Rapace. Whoever it is, they're standing in the middle of some kind of spherical vortex thingy and we're not even gonna guess what this is all about. But speculate away below if you want. "Prometheus" hits on June 8th.

Whether you like it or not, Warner Bros' "Akira" remake is now greenlit and moving ahead. With “Unknown” and “Orphan” director Jaume Collet-Serra set to direct and "Tron: Legacy" star Garrett Hedlund ahead of the pack to take on one of the lead roles, it seems the filmmakers are actively looking to cast up the film and are looking to get some big name talent on board. Though this shouldn't be a surprise (more on that in a moment).

To adapt a story into a movie is to lionize the subject, say some critics. It’s the same school of thought that believes you can’t ever make an anti-war movie. To that end, some would say, in a Warholian manner, that every person deserves their own movie, for such a designation would suggest a humanist approach to the narrative of a single person from within the global culture.

Barry Pepper, James Badge Dale & Helena Bonham Carter Also Getting Ready To Saddle UpIf there is one thing that country musician and actor Dwight Yoakam does well, its act like an asshole and sleazebag. Billy Bob Thornton knew this when he cast him as the memorably repulsive Doyle Hargraves in "Sling Blade" and David Fincher realized his presence alone was worth more than pages of dialogue when he tasked Yoakam to play the unpredictable and violent Raoul. He can also be wryly funny as he's displayed in "Crank" and "Wedding Crashers" but he's gearing up for this biggest movie yet.

Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have been talking about teaming up for an adaptation of 1960s vampire soap "Dark Shadows" for years now, but for a while, it was unclear if the always-busy megastar would find room in his schedule for the film. But if "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and "Alice in Wonderland" taught us anything in the last few years, it's that if the pair are attached to a VFX-heavy, production design-reliant project that plays right into their comfort zones, it'll happen sooner or later. And indeed, "Dark Shadows" begins production in the U.K. this week.

One particular production, though, is already jumping out of the blocks as a standout: the adaptation of "Great Expectations" by Mike Newell which already has rising star Jeremy Irvine ("War Horse") as Pip and Helena Bonham Carter in talks for Miss Havisham.

If the name Jeremy Irvine is meaningless to you, don't worry, that will soon change. The National Youth Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company actor -- and player in the the Brit series "Life Bites" -- was handpicked last year by Steven Spielberg to star in his upcoming WWI drama "War Horse" and now it looks like the actor is ready to take on one of the giants of literature with veteran Brit thesp possibly joining him.
