So, you might not be aware of this, but even with the awards buzz around his role in "A Single Man," Colin Firth wasn't the first choice to star in "The King's Speech," the film that became a phenomenon, and won the British veteran his first Oscar. In fact, the part was originally offered to Paul Bettany, star of, among others, "A Beautiful Mind," "Master and Commander" and "Dogville." Unfortunately, for Bettany, he was coming off a lengthy shoot for vampire actioner "Priest" (yes, it shot that long ago), and the actor turned the role down to spend time with his young family: an admirable decision, but one that the actor must view with some regret, considering his once-promising career has been stricken with bad action movies like the aforementioned "Priest" and "Legion," or sub-par dramas like "Creation" in recent years.

It's not secret by now that Hugh Jackman and "Real Steel" director Shawn Levy have hit it off in a huge way. Before their first collaboration has even been released studio types are feeling chuffed and already planning a sequel, while Jackman and Levy have already started eyeing another project with Carlton Cuse being tapped to write the action-adventure script. But their next team-up maybe be bigger than any of those.

Things aren't in a good place right now for Universal's "Snow White And The Huntsman." Their competitors over at Relativity already have Julia Roberts and Lily Collins ready to go in the Tarsem directed Snow White movie that's going to hit theaters on June 29, 2012—six months before Universal's entry. With Viggo Mortensen already having moved on, last week it was reported that the studio was talking to the now available Hugh Jackman to take on the part, but it appears those efforts have gone unrewarded.

It was bound to happen, and we're surprised it didn't happen sooner. But with "The Wolverine" now on hold thanks to the double whammy of Darren Aronofsky bailing on the film and the ongoing aftereffects of the devastating earthquake in Japan where the film was set to shoot, Universal are hoping they can take advantage of Hugh Jackman's downtime and get him to star in their developing Snow White movie.

With "The Wolverine" now without a director and with the events in Japan putting location shooting in the country -- where the majority of the film is set -- on hold for now, Hugh Jackman is going to do what anyone else in his situation would do. Sing.

Did Darren Aronofsky Bail On The Film Due To Lack Of Creative Control? The wind got knocked out of the sails of the comic community in a big way late last week as it was announced that Darren Aronofsky -- seen as the savior for the on-the-ropes spinoff franchise for Wolverine -- had left the project, which was gearing up to start shooting this spring/early summer. In a joint statement with 20th Century Fox, the director cited the lengthy shoot in Japan as the reason he was bowing out with Deadline initially hinting that custody issues with Rachel Weisz over their son played a role in his exit. However, a different tune is emerging.

Pitch Can't Possibly Be As Stupid As Robot Boxing, Can It?If the box office in the last few years has made anything clear, it's that contemporary audiences like nothing more than the combination of CGI robots and punching. The first two "Transformers" movies grossed $1.5 billion between them, with the third likely to join them as a huge hit this summer. But that's not enough for DreamWorks, who teamed "Night at the Museum" director Shawn Levy and star Hugh Jackman on "Real Steel," a future-set tale of robot boxing.

Jude Law, Alec Baldwin, Isla Fisher Also Among Cast, Leonardo DiCaprio Out; 'Rabbit Hole' Scribe David Lindsay-Abaire Penning The ScreenplayFor over a decade now, DreamWorks Animation have been consistently behind Pixar in their output: films like of "Shark Tale," "Monsters Vs. Aliens" and the "Shrek" sequels substitute star voices, bombastic action sequences and already-past-their-sell-by-date pop culture gags for heart and soul, to increasingly diminishing returns. But, to their credit, the company seem keen to change things, bringing on big creative names to aid their newer projects: Guillermo Del Toro will serve as executive producer on many of the company's new films, and top-flight writers like Charlie Kaufman and Noah Baumbach are writing sequels to "Kung Fu Panda" and "Madagascar."
