Wolverine Hugh Jackman
Now that we're past the "Man of Steel" and "Iron Man 3" frenzies, there's another familiar superhero who will be returning to the big screen later next month. Getting ready for the July 26th premiere of "The Wolverine," 20th Century Fox has released a stockpile of images for us all to peruse, including a new banner and poster combo and a bunch of stills.

Wolverine
With "Iron Man 3" closing in on $1.2 billion worldwide and "Man Of Steel" taking flight this weekend with dollar signs in its eyes, can "The Wolverine" be the same super-sized hit? Gauging anticipation is a fool's errand, but it's probably safe to say excitement is trailing behind those other two movies. But then again, 20th Century Fox really knows how to turn on the marketing juice so prepare for much more over the next six weeks.

Wolverine
Is Hugh Jackman growing tired of the mutton chops and adamantium claws? Since 2000's "X-Men," the actor has been the hirsute face of Wolverine across a three X-Men movies, and one terrible standalone film, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine." And coming up, we'll be getting a double dose of the star as Logan in this summer's "The Wolverine" and next year's "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" (and let's not forget he popped up ever so briefly in "X-Men: First Class"). Essentially, Jackman has been playing the character for well over a decade now, and it seems he might be ready to pass the torch.

Hugh Jackman, Prisoners
It was mooted as one of Hollywood script's circa 2009 in fact it landed at the top of the BlackList pile that year. Names like Leonardo DiCaprio, Bryan Singer, Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale were thrown around in several different versions, but for whatever reason the film never quite came together. However, one actor stayed the course. Hugh Jackman was set to play the lead in 2010 and cut to a few years later, the actor was game and ready to play the role in the newest iteration.

Now that the Cannes Film Festival is in the rearview, we can't help but start speculating about what movies will hit the Venice/Telluride/TIFF circuit in just a few months, and these two are probably pretty fair bets.

So here's some interesting news of the day: Bob Balaban is producing a remake of the musical "South Pacific." It's a bit surprising considering his credits as a producer thus far have been few, with "Gosford Park" the most notable, but yeah, he's hoping to give the Rodgers and Hammerstein stage musical a contemporary big screen redo. And he's found someone to possibly be his new Mitzi Gaynor.

Wolverine, Hugh Jackman
With "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" stacked to the rafters with pretty much every mutant they can squeeze into the thing, this summer's "The Wolverine" is looking pretty quaint. Oh sure, we'll get Viper, Silver Samurai and Jean Grey (probably), but those few barely even begin to scratch the sheer volume of players Bryan Singer is bringing to the table. Perhaps not be outdone, and to possibly try and ape Marvel's comic world building, it would appear that another face will be popping up as a late addition to "The Wolverine," and duh, spoilers below.

The Wolverine Logan Viper
CinemaCon is the annual event where theater owners and studio types come together to massage each other, tell each other it's going to be okay, and then confer about how many bajillion dollars movies will make this year. Part of that process is showing off footage to get theater owners all hot and buttery and while in years past this kind of stuff has tended to say under the radar (for example, Oscar talk for "Life Of Pi" began at CinemaCon last year after some early material was screened, well before the public saw any trailers), things are changing. The monstrous CinemaCon trailer for Guillermo Del Toro's "Pacific Rim" dropped a couple of days ago, now Fox is following suit with their "The Wolverine" spot.

Well, that got kind of ridiculous for a moment, didn't it? Teasing fanboy blue balls for the past few days, we've seen 6-second and 20-second teasers for "The Wolverine" (guess that promise of marketing saturation was fulfilled), but the full release arrives this morning with the first, complete trailer for the upcoming reboot (of sorts) for the superhero and the big question is: does it work?

This is getting ridiculous. After Fox debuted seven seconds of the upcoming trailer for "The Wolverine," the latest Hugh Jackman-with-claws superhero epic, on social media site Vine, they have taken to generously providing the world with twenty whole seconds of footage, this time courtesy of MTV. And what of the twenty seconds? Well, they do look promisingly cool, even if, the entire time, we were thinking, Man this would have been infinitely cooler if Darren Aronofsky had followed through. Snikt!
