Anyway, another promising project on his plate is “Dallas Buyers Club” director Jean-Marc Vallee's "Demolition," and he's being joined by Naomi Watts.

Beasts Of No Nation
While from a long way out, Idris Elba looked like a no brainer Oscar contender for "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom," when the film finally arrived to a muted response from critics and audiences, that chatter fell away. But can he get back in the Oscar mix with his next effort? Well, if it's done in time, we think "Beasts Of No Nation" could be both a Best Picture and Best Actor contender, and a pretty fierce first image has dropped today.

American Pastoral Ewan McGregor
After spending some time in the blockbuster arena with the 2010 Angelina Jolie-starring espionage flick “Salt,” and this summer’s YA adaptation “The Giver,” Australian director Phillip Noyce will finally be helming a film with no action set pieces again. Per Coming Soon, Noyce will tackle the long-gestating adaptation of Phillip Roth’s critically acclaimed novel “American Pastoral” and he’s cast Ewan McGregor as the lead.

The Equalizer
Sony is very high on their fall Denzel Washington vehicle "The Equalizer." An adaptation of the Edward Woodward-starring TV classic (particularly beloved of Rob Reiner in "The Wolf Of Wall Street"), it made the Black List while only in script form, initially attracted the attention of hot directors like Nicolas Winding Refn and Rupert Wyatt, and the film's apparently attracted some of the best test scores in the company's history, enough so that they've already put a sequel into development.

Unstoppable
Oh, wow, this is good. The idea of getting a big-name actor to direct a short film about football that would basically serve as an advert for Pepsi (sponsors of the upcoming World Cup in Brazil) sounds – and indeed is – corporately cheesy. Presumably they were expecting some generically cheery people popping Pepsis on the pitch and maybe a cameo or two: but when they gave it to Idris Elba, what they got instead was "Unstoppable," a soulful slice of '70s English school life, in which a hopeless nerd suddenly reveals unexpected football skills, all done with playful handheld camerawork on warm, '70s-style filmstock and with a soundtrack from R3HAB and Eva Simons.

On the Other Side of the Tracks Omar Sy
As "Jurassic World" gears up to roll in front of cameras, the finishing touches on the cast are being put in place plus some new details about the shoot are emerging, and it turns out Colin Trevorrow's latest installment will be connecting all the way to back to Steven Spielberg's 1993 smash hit "Jurassic Park."

Everything Nice Charlize Theron
If the Internet can’t convince Eon Productions to cast Idris Elba as James Bond, perhaps his new role can land him a villain gig in Bond 24. Elba is set to voice Shere Khan in Disney and Jon Favreau's take on “The Jungle Book.” Favreau will use live-action and VFX to bring the story to the screen. Expect to see this sooner than later as Disney is neck and neck with Warner Bros. with their own version of Rudyard Kipling’s classic.

A casting shakeup, sibling teamwork and an animated movie about gummy bears or something so let's get to it. First announced last spring, we kinda forgot about "Alive Alone," but it looks like it's gearing up though with a couple of changes.

Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom
Based on an inspiring true story, led in front of the camera by Idris Elba and guided behind the camera by Justin Chadwick ("The Fifth Grader"), it would seem that "Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom" would tick all the Oscar bait boxes with ease. And yet, ready to hit theaters next week, buzz is rather non-existent for the rigorously respectful film.

Idris Elba, Luke Cage
With the character Luke Cage moving to Netflix’s Marvel deal, this ship has likely sailed, but evidently “Pacific Rim star was talking to Marvel about playing the Powerman half of the Powerman & Iron Fist duo (both of them are getting separate shows as part of the Marvel/Netflix deal).
