She's Funny That Way aka Squirrel To The Nuts
It's been over a decade since Peter Bogdanovich directed a feature film. Since "The Cat's Meow" in 2001, the filmmaker has helmed an episode of "The Sopranos," the TV sports drama "Hustle" and the documentary "Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers: Runnin' Down A Dream." Now, he's returned with a full length effort, "She's Funny That's Way" (formerly known as "Squirrel To The Nuts").

All Is By My Side
The brief life of classic rock legend Jimi Hendrix was one that—forgive the metaphor—was electric. A virtuoso guitar player, ambitious songwriter and dazzling performer, Hendrix was second to none, with The Jimi Hendrix Experience one of the most formidable (and loudest) bands on the planet at the time. So naturally, a movie about his life seems like a no brainer. But what happens when you don't have access to any of his songs?

A Long Way Down
Four people go up to a rooftop at the same time to commit suicide, and wind up forging friendships instead and a pact to stay alive. Yes, that's the basic summary of "A Long Way Down," the upcoming comedy (really) from Pascal Chaumeil, the director behind French rom-com "Heartbreaker" that put him on the map a few years back. Though, this might take him off it.

Review: James McAvoy Shines In Otherwise Disappointing 'Filth'

One thing we resolved early on, having read around on the subject a little: to try, try, try to get through just the first sentence of our review of “Filth,” the Jon S. Baird-directed adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s novel, without mentioning “Trainspotting.” So, obviously, we’re pretty disappointed with ourselves. But disappointment is somewhat the order of the day, unfortunately, as it’s a comparison that occurred to us, not often to the benefit of "Filth," throughout our viewing of the film.

Patrick Wilson, Jessica Biel, Imogen Poots, Blunderer
It’s a casting-o-rama Friday. With Cannes around the corner and the entire industry getting together for their quarterly wheeling and dealing, it means a lot of pacts are being made. Perhaps the most interesting is the adaptation of Patricia Highsmith’s novel ‘The Blunderer.” She is obviously the writer of the Talented Mr. Ripley series and this non-Ripley-centered psychological thriller will star Patrick Wilson, Jessica Biel, Toby Jones and Imogen Poots. Andy Goddard will direct.

Filth
Booze, pills, sex, alcohol....it's just another die in the life of an Irvine Welsh character, with the "Trainspotting" writer seeing another one of his works hit the big screen in "Filth." And yes, in case the red band nature of the trailer didn't tip you off, this is as dirty as you might expect.

All Is By My Side
The story goes that before Jimi Hendrix electrified audiences with his game-changing approach to rock 'n roll and blues, coupled with this flamboyant, jaw-dropping guitar technique, he was just another musician trying to pay the bills on the R&B circuit. Until one day, he was spotted by Linda Keith—girlfriend of someone you might have heard of named Keith Richards—at the Cheetah Club in New York, and putting Hendrix in touch with the right people, he was quickly launched to superstardom. And it's a good story, with a rise-to-fame narrative, famous faces and presumably, memorable songs. Yet, somehow, in Oscar winning "12 Years Slave" scribe John Ridley's film "All Is By My Side," which he wrote and directed, we get very little understanding of the artistry and ambition that would see one among a number of guitarists hustling for a dollar, become one of the most influential rock 'n roll musicians of all time.

Engineered for maximum velocity, super-torqued hairpin turns and high-octane thrills (obviously), thanks to the likes of the “Fast & Furious,” you should know exactly what to expect from the upcoming junior series, “Need For Speed” aka “Hot Wheels: The Movie.” But if the ‘F&F’ series is often absurdly entertaining with riotous cinematic maximalism in the pole position, “Need For Speed” is comparatively humorless, arguably dumber and doesn’t boast the same visual horsepower.

Need For Speed
Coming around the bend and heading into cinemas is "Need For Speed," and the question is whether or not the millions and millions of console fans who have spent hours tinkering with their cars and driving them on tracks around the world will get off the couch to see this. It's an eternal question that movie studios face when adapting video games, and DreamWorks is really trying hard to lure in the core.

All Is By My Side Andre 3000
For a movie about rock 'n roll royalty, there hasn't been much noise about the Jimi Hendrix biopic "All Is By My Side." Not only does the movie feature Andre 3000 (aka Andre Benjamin) playing the legendary axeman, it was written by Oscar-winning "12 Years A Slave" scribe John Ridley, who directs as well (it's his sophomore feature effort; his first is the little-seen 1997 film "Cold Around The Heart"). And yet, despite all that and a TIFF premiere last fall, we haven't heard much about it. But perhaps a showing at SXSW will change that.
