Back when Steve Carell was plying his trade on "The Office" on a weekly basis, we could expect to see him in maybe one or two films each summer, depending on what he could fit around his busy NBC schedule. But when his time on that show ran its course last April, Carell found himself with a lot more time on his hands to develop new projects and we'll soon be seeing more and more of those coming to fruition. The actor has "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World," "Hope Springs" and "The Incredible Burt Wonderstone" all on the horizon, and that's not including the vast number of projects Carell is attached to as a star or as a producer through his company, Carousel Productions.

EXCLUSIVE: Earlier this year, during an interview with David Gordon Green, we asked about his Rough House Pictures production shingle, the company he formed with filmmaking pals Jody Hill, Danny McBride and Matt Reilly. He told us it's a place where the "strange ideas and concepts" they cook up or come across have a home to grow and develop. And it looks like those plans are starting to bear some fruit, particularly on television. Last spring, MTV picked up the animated series "Good Vibes" and this summer Rough House signed a one-year development deal with 20th Century Fox. Well, they certainly haven't wasted any time in getting things rolling.

We probably don't need to tell you about our admiration for Aubrey Plaza, and we're glad to see the actress rightfully getting her due with the lead role in the upcoming "The Hand Job" featuring a wealth of comedic talent. But another project, also featuring Plaza, will mount first and she's joined once again with some strong players at her side.

Considering it's the kind of project that we'd normally run a mile from (namely, a big-budget remake of a 1980s TV show that no one really gives a shit about), we're curiously optimistic about "21 Jump Street." Like the show, which launched the career of Johnny Depp, the movie will focus on a group of fresh-faced cops who go undercover in a high school, but the new version is an R-rated action-comedy take on the material, described as "Bad Boys" meets "John Hughes."
