This Summer, You Will Believe A Planet Can RiseThose damn dirty apes at Fox can't stop monkeying around with the next film in the "Planet of the Apes" series. First, they went ahead and offered it to every major director only to be turned down. Then they ordered multiple rewrites despite already having a release date. Finally, they declared June 24th to be the day audiences would see "Cesar," though they had already changed the name to "Rise Of The Apes." Then, of course, they bumped the film to Thanksgiving to allow for more time to finish the special effects. Then, at some point, they must have replaced the special effects guys with wizards, because "Rise Of The Apes" returned to August 5th.

Franco Also Options 'Zeroville' As Yet Another Potential Directorial GigJames Franco. Actor, director, student, artist, teacher...he's a modern renaissance man and though he's teetering on the edge of overexposure, you gotta kind of love an Oscar nominee who also dabbles in soap operas. And while at times it may seem he's just yanking on the chain of the industry that feeds his stomach, Franco does seem to have a sincere interest in truly artistic endeavors, so when we heard that he was going to be working with Harmony Korine, it made a lot of sense in a way.

James Franco, Albert Maysles, Lance Bangs & More Tapped To Direct Videos For R.E.M.While "The Green Hornet" was a forgettable comic book movie marred by more than a few problems, director Michel Gondry did get to sneak in some of his distinctive style from time-to-time including an ambitious split screen sequence, one of the few highlights of the film. But overall, it was a Gondry film in name only. Well, for those seeking the wickedly lo-fi creativity of the director that put him on the map, look no further than the latest video for The Living Sisters (via Wired). Helmed by Gondry, the triple split screen video is a charming tale about the birth of a baby that features earthquakes, fires, bikers and enough no-budget effects for ten videos. It's winning, warming and a reminder of how good Gondry can be.

As evinced by the recent 83rd annual Academy Awards, and the every-other-day piece of news that breaks, James Franco must sleep about 20 hours a week maximum, as he's constantly announcing or working on some new enterprise. Not content with hosting the Oscars and tweeting at the same time, while starring on "General Hospital" and juggling a myriad of ventures, including films, short films, art projects and books, the "127 Hours" star -- who did not win an Oscar this past Sunday -- is teaming up with arthouse enfant terrible-turned-relatively-mellow, Harmony Korine ("Gummo," "Mister Lonely," "Trash Humpers").

The second-to-last hurrah of the movie season took place this afternoon, with the Independent Spirit Awards, the looser neighbor to the big Oscar show tomorrow night. And while it's unlikely "Black Swan" will repeat the feat on Sunday, Fox Searchlight must be very pleased to close off their year in such a winning a fashion.

We should've seen this one coming. Just a couple days before James Franco hosts the Oscars, the actor reprised his role as the murderous The Franco on "General Hospital" in a brief cameo today. Vulture captured the moment for eternity and who knew so much awesomeness could be packed into a clip that runs just about a minute and a half. The self-portraits! The eye rolling one liners referencing the Oscars and "127 Hours"! It's all there, it's all amazing and it's probably about 10 times more entertaining than watching that red carpet stuff on Sunday evening (but you know we'll be watching it anyway; check out our live blog on Sunday for all of our zingers).

We'll say this: it's kind of amazing the amount of buzz James Franco -- aka The Franco -- has managed to create for himself. It's the kind of chatter and publicity most stars would love to have, but it's all the more remarkable considering that it's only after this weekend when he hosts the Oscars that James Franco will become something of a household name. Sure, he had a co-starring role in the "Spider-Man" films but other than that, he hasn't really toplined a major franchise. But that's all about to change. Later this year he will fight the "Rise of the Apes" and now Deadline reports that the ink is pretty much dry on earlier talks that will find the actor reteaming with Sam Raimi for "Oz: The Great and Powerful."

Word has been pretty quiet on the upcoming franchise reboot "Rise of the Apes," but it seems that's all about to change as 20th Century Fox has dropped a first look (via JoBlo) at the lead star James Franco in the film, not coincidentally just before the actor is set to host the Oscars this weekend.

Also Has Another Film In The Can With A Score By Michael StipeDoes James Franco sleep? It seems this guy spends every waking moment being productive and at the rate of his output, he'll have enough work to start filling his own museum and frankly, we wouldn't be surprised if he built one. The James Franco Museum Of James Franco Stuff. Yeah, we could dig that.
