Trance, James McAvoy
If one thing seems to be clear about Danny Boyle's "Trance," it's that it might mess up your mind as much as it does its lead character, an auction house worker who gets caught up in an art heist gone very wrong. "...a head-spinning, psychologically rich take on the crime flick," we said about the movie in our A-grade review and now another peek at the thrills Boyle is bringing has dropped.

Director Danny Boyle was in a peculiar and unlikely situation with his upcoming mind-bending heist movie "Trance." He was able to see the film until months after he shot it, because the movie wrapped, with Boyle going on to work on the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He then picked up with what had been shot more than six months later. "We didn't anticipate [the advantage to editing after the fact] at the time and there's always a danger that it's not favorable," Boyle said. "We were very lucky to do it. Most filmmakers don't get a chance to put a film on ice. I was a bit concerned... but when we went to go watch the rough cut after the Olympics, it was like, weird. I couldn't remember what was coming next."

Trance, James McAvoy
While he’s been talking up the film all over the place over the past week, Danny Boyle’s mind-fuck thriller “Trance” doesn’t arrive in theaters until next month. If you’ve already heard some of Rick Smith’s score and still need something to hold you over until April, three new clips from the film have arrived online that are sure to make the wait even more unbearable.

"The 'X-Men' script? It's in my inbox. I've still got to read it. I'm very excited about it, but I've just been doing so much of this and working at night so I'm starting work at 9 and don't finish until midnight so I'm not being flippant. I honestly can't wait to read it and find out what I'm doing, but I've just got no time right now," James McAvoy told press just over a week ago, so perhaps he can be forgiven for getting some of the details wrong about "X-Men: Days of Future Past."

Because "X-Men: Days Of Future Past" doesn't already have a big enough cast with Jennifer Lawrence, Michael Fassbender, Nicholas Hoult, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Omar Sy, Halle Berry, Peter Dinklage, Ellen Page, Anna Paquin, Shawn Ashmore and Hugh Jackman all slated to appear in one way or another, it seems the cast just keeps getting bigger.

James McAvoy’s set to become ubiquitous in 2013. His assault on the silver screen begins this Friday (in the UK at least) with the release of Eran Creevy’s “Welcome to the Punch,” with Danny Boyle’s “Trance” arriving later in the month, and the Irvine Welsh adaptation “Filth” (which has already screened to UK press despite not yet having a release date) surely not far behind. That’s before we’ve even got to “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His” and “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Hers” with Jessica Chastain, which similarly don’t have release dates set yet but we wouldn’t be surprised to see before the year is out.

Review: 'Welcome To The Punch' Is A Stylish & Smart British Spin In On The Action-Thriller

The terms "British cinema" and "action movie" tend not to go together particularly well. Maybe it's the smaller budgets at play, maybe it's an awareness that our American and Asian cousins do it better, maybe it's cultural -- most British cops don't carry weapons, for example. It's not that it hasn't been tried, it's more that the examples we do have -- "The 51st State," "Centurion," "The Sweeney" -- tend to be bad enough to dissuade too many others from giving it a shot, and so the idea of an action movie set in the U.K. remains incongruous enough that it can form the central joke of an entire film, like Edgar Wright's "Hot Fuzz."

Danny Boyle has always been a frenetic and energetic filmmaker, blending music and images like few others, but it looks he may go to trippy new heights with the mind-bending heist thriller “Trance.” With the Oscar-winning director heading to SXSW this weekend, a new clip from the film has dropped online.

“Welcome To The Punch” feels like it’s been a long time coming, but it finally hits cinemas in the UK a week on Friday, before debuting 12 days later in the US on March 27th. Eran Creevy’s follow-up to his excellent micro-budget “Shifty” is a crime thriller in the vein of “Infernal Affairs,” shot in the style of Tony Scott, and stars an impressive British cast lead by James McAvoy and Mark Strong. With those release dates fast approaching we’ve got a new clip and a new featurette.
