With a movie called "White House Down," directed by Roland Emmerich, you pretty much know what you're going to get. Having already laid waste to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue twice before in "2012" and "Independence Day," Emmerich luxuriates in blowing up the national icon once again. Both wings and the main residence get shot up and bombed and rampaged, in addition to airplanes and helicopters getting shot out of the sky, SUVs flipping over and tanks obliterated. Emmerich doesn't miss a beat, and for bonus points, the Capitol Building comes crumbling down, with yet another Hollywood blockbuster lazily evoking 9/11 imagery for popcorn entertainment. And while some critics argue that "White House Down" satisfies whatever low, blockbuster bar Emmerich sets for himself, films this insipid and dumb do not deserve a pass just because they're "fun." While some may say that "White House Down" is self-aware of how extraordinarily silly it all is, the seriousness with which most of the cast plays it out, suggets otherwise.

Channing Tatum, White House Down
With 9 days left to go, we can’t wait for “White House Down” or as we dubbed it after watching the trailer, “the most awesome dumb movie of the summer.” Directed by Roland Emmerich (“Independence Day,” “The Day After Tomorrow”) and starring Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx as a police officer and the President of the United States facing a paramilitary group, this looks to be one explosive and laugh-filled summer to-be blockbuster. In addition to the trailer, we’ve got two more clips from the film and a music video from Tatum and Foxx.

Channing Tatum, White House Down
It wasn't that long ago when National Association of Theater Owners stated that movie trailers were too long, showed off too much and they wanted to mandate Hollywood to cut 'em down. And frankly, when something like a 4-minute trailer for "White House Down" drops, showing what looks like every beat of the movie as well as every major setpiece, it's hard not to see their point. But since we're here, let's dive into this thing anyway.

The teaser trailer for Blue Sky Studio's "Rio 2" has just hit the internet and the brief clip doesn't explain much, instead encouraging you to shake your tail feathers while you'll undoubtedly wonder, at least for the first thirty seconds or so, if you're watching a commercial for a feature-length version of the "Angry Birds" iPhone game. (Spoiler alert: you're not.)

Channing Tatum, White House Down
Okay, unless you can't find a babysitter, do people really bring their kids to job interviews or is that just a movie thing? Anyway, it's the device used to establish in "White House Down" that: a) Channing Tatum's buff hero is also sensitive and caring b) It's gives him Something To Fight For and c) it sets the whole story (implausibly) in motion. Now can we get to the explosions please?

Jamie Foxx has certainly been full of surprises lately, whether it's nerding out for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" or deciding to produce, write and direct a horror series for SyFy. Once again, we'd never have predicted this next move, which will see Foxx putting his musical skills (he's a platinum selling R&B artist, in case you forgot) to good use.

Django Unchained
There is a host of extras on the deluxe Blu-ray edition of Quentin Tarantino's revisionist splatter-western "Django Unchained" (out this week), but amidst all the special features, there's one thing you won't find: deleted scenes. During the press day we attended for the film back in December, Tarantino theorized that there could be a longer "Dances with Wolves"-esque director's cut one day, but as of now, that has yet to materialize (Samuel L. Jackson has joked he can't wait to see the five hour cut). But just because those deleted scenes aren’t part of the supplementary material or reintegrated into the film (yet), doesn't mean that they weren't there at some point – either at script phase or during filming. It's with this in mind that we run down the biggest deletions, omissions, or adjustments between what "Django Unchained" was to be, and what it ended up being.

We weren't sure whether to go with an "Arrested Development" joke ("I blue myself") or something about "Powder," so you'll have to come up with a wittier opening than we did. But needless to say, this first look at Jamie Foxx in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is certainly attention grabbing.

Perhaps the best advice any actor can receive is to diversity and Jamie Foxx -- who first became known for his comedy -- seems to be taking that to heart. Before "Django Unchained," he starred in the hit comedy "Horrible Bosses" (sequel on the way) before stepping into Quentin Tarantino's movie, and he'll next play the President in "White House Down," Electro in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" and also do a voice role in "Rio 2." And how, he's dipping his toes into a wholly new genre -- well, actually, he's throwing his whole body in the pool....
