Before we begin, can we just have a moment of silence of Lane Pryce?...........Okay, with that out of the way, there's no need to weep for former "Mad Men" star Jared Harris as he's joining an upcoming and hotly touted young adult novel adaptation, along with another actress who is currently experiencing some small screen heat of her own.

We're still months and months away from the Oscars, but the other awards ceremony of the moving image is starting to sneak up; two weeks from today, the nominations for the Primetime Emmys, the biggest awards honoring television comedies, dramas, miniseries and movies, will be announced, ahead of the ceremony itself in September. Given the stars that the small screen attracts these days, it's just as glitzy as the Academy Awards, and given that we're living in what's generally deemed to be something of a golden age of television, there are more good shows on the air than could possibly be honored in a single ceremony. Someone's going to miss out.

But they've also got a new original project brewing as well, "The Quiet Ones." First announced back in February, Michael Sheen was reportedly offered the lead role, but alas that didn't pan out, however a no less capable name is stepping up to the plate.

Now most of the awards contenders have been unveiled, the major secrets left in the 2011 movie advent calendar are a few big, loud blockbusters that'll hit around Christmas; films like "Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol," "The Darkest Hour," and, um, "Alvin & The Chipmunks: Chipwrecked." Will they be sweet, sugar-y goodness, or the cinematic equivalent of Billy Bob Thornton drunkenly eating the whole thing late at night, and then remorsefully filling it with candy corn and taping it up again?

Somewhat of a cinematic chameleon, character actors don't come along much better than Jared Harris. Portraying everyone from Andy Warhol ("I Shot Andy Warhol") to Captain Mike ("The Curious Case Of Benjamin To Button") to Moriarty in next month's "Sherlock Holmes: A Game Of Shadows," the actor has pretty much done it all in movies both big and small. And now the mighty Spielberg has come calling.
