Sex Tape
As far as weird on-screen sexual scenarios go, Cameron Diaz has had her fair share. After all, she is the only actress in the history of the medium to have styled her hair with male ejaculate ("There's Something About Mary"), been involved in some kind of weird old timey abortion ("Gangs of New York") and, well, f*cked a car ("The Counselor"). So it's not much of a surprise that she'd be involved in a movie like "Sex Tape," a ribald comedy about a suburban couple (Jason Segel as her husband) who make a homemade porno and then promptly lose it -- leading to a madcap scramble to retrieve the video, maintain their privacy, and continue a life of relative upper middle class normalcy. What is surprising, however, is how bland "Sex Tape" is. On the scale of on-screen Cameron Diaz sexual outrageousness, it's pretty tepid.

Sex Tape
Audience taste can be ever changing and fickle—what was the hot flavor last year, can be sour the next time around. Just ask Melissa McCarthy, who brought "Tammy" to the July 4th weekend, delivering her usual fare of outlandish, boorish humor, to the collective shrug of the moviegoing public. So you have to wonder what ticket buyers will do with "Sex Tape."

Sex Tape
A few years ago, Jason Segel put it all out there, going full frontal in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," and as he tells Vanity Fair, his mother wasn't ready for it. "She cried," he said, adding that sent an email to the rest of the family saying, “I would like to inform you all that Jason has chosen to do full-frontal nudity, however, it is not gratuitous and is essential to the plot.” Whether or not we'll get Full Segel in "Sex Tape" remains to be seen, but he's once again stepping into a raunchy comedy.

Did you care for Sony’s “Bad Teacher”? Would you want to see a sequel? The movie was just okay, right? But before you forget, that R-rated comedy grossed $216 million worldwide. You might not think those are spectacular numbers, but it is higher than “Knocked-Up” and “The 40-Year-Old Virgin,” two mid/late aughts pictures that were heralded for making the R-rated comedy bankable again.

Literary eyebrows were raised all over the place when we learned, late last year, that Jason Segel was set to play cult writer David Foster Wallace in James Ponsoldt's biopic “The End of the Tour," which will adapt journalist David Lipsky's account of accompanying Wallace on a book tour just as “Infinite Jest” was making him a strange kind of superstar (Jesse Eisenberg will play Lipsky). People had trouble imagining arch-slacker and Muppet-lover Segel embodying the depressive Wallace, though the physical resemblance in the first images from the set was pretty impressive.

Sex Tape
The last time we saw Jason Segel naked, he was being dumped in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall," but in "Sex Tape," he's getting down and dirty with Cameron Diaz. And he's even looking a bit fitter doing it. "I took heat for 'Forgetting Sarah Marshall,' where I was completely nude. But different characters require different body types," he told US Weekly about dropping weight for the movie. "It is R-rated, and I'm not in shape for no reason."

Somewhere beyond the grave, David Foster Wallace is writing a great essay with extensive footnotes about the fact that Jason Segel will be playing him in a movie. Yep, the late Pulitzer Prize finalist will be portrayed by the guy who got his dick out and wrote a puppet musical in "Forgetting Sarah Marshall." It's kinda poetic, in a strange way.

David Foster Wallace Jesse Eisenberg Jason Segel James Ponsoldt
Of his upcoming biopic, “Hillary,” James Ponsoldt recently told us it “has nothing to do with celebrity of the character…that story is not a cradle-to-the-grave biopic, it’s sort of looking into a keyhole of a very specific period of her life." The “Spectacular Now” director is currently selecting the right young Hillary Clinton to match those points, but in the meantime Ponsoldt has emerged with another surprising biopic with a fixed-timeframe, and it already has quite the intriguing cast assembled.

Way back when in 2010, we revealed that Seth Rogen was planning a flick called “Sausage Party,” (then called "Sausage Fest") and while that sounds like the kind of thing Seth Rogen just says, it has become clear that “Sausage Party” was more than an idle fancy over the past couple of years. It has a concept—it's an R-rated animated movie about a talking sausage who, with his other supermarket produce buddies, has to get back onto the shelves before Independence Day's BBQs hit—and it has actors—the voices of Rogen, frequent collaborator Jonah Hill and long-time voice actor Conrad Vernon. What it didn't have was the funding to give it the go-ahead...
